Worship at RUCC

Third Sunday after Pentecost, June 14

"Thanking God"

There is a saying I learned in seminary that I have remembered in my work - “pray as if God exists, work as if God doesn’t”. The idea is we cannot wait for God to walk us to the store or stand up for those without a voice - we need to be God’s hands and actions here in the world. At the same time, our actions and choices need to be guided by an understanding and acknowledgement that God is present and at work somehow in our world. Come join us for worship this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary or online - we will look at how we work out the balance between human and sacred work in our lives!

Scripture: Psalm 100

Note from the Board President

Hello, Church Family!

I love hanging out in the Micah Room every Tuesday morning and seeing who drops in for a "Little Chat!" I will be there next Tuesday, June 16, as usual, from 10-12.

I do have to skip June 23, but I will be back on my normal schedule again starting June 30. Drop by! Let's chat!

It's Garden Season at RUCC

Have a friend or neighbor who would like a space to grow veggies and flowers? The RUCC community garden has space to offer. We have a list of items that are required to keep the plots maintained and healthy for all to enjoy.

  • Weed eating with a hula hoe between garden plots so weeds don't invade.
  • Collect pine needles from the surrounding garden area and add them to the needle mulch pile.
  • Water gardens, pull weeds as needed.
  • Fill water bowls around the garden for critters.
  • Refill bird feeder as needed.
  • Water starter plants near the shed.

Contact Gretchen if you or someone you know is interested. Thank you!!

In the month of June, we will be collecting unopened, non-perishable food items for Family Service Association of Redlands. The five most needed items that FSA puts in every prepared box that they distribute are:

1) Cooking oil

2) Sugar (4 lb. bags)

3) Canisters/bags of oats and/or oatmeal packets

4) Peanut butter

5) Spaghetti sauce

Other items are welcome too! Ideas include canned soup, beans, vegetables, and meats; boxed pasta and macaroni and cheese; cereal; pancake mix; and crackers, chips, and other snacks.

Thank you!

Social Justice

Racial justice message

The California Supreme Court unanimously reversed the death sentence of Anthony Bankston after finding that the prosecutor’s comparison of him to a dangerous animal introduced racial bias into the trial. This marks the first time a death sentence has been overturned under California’s Racial Justice Act, which allows incarcerated people to challenge convictions or sentences influenced by racial prejudice. The murder conviction remains, but the case now returns to a lower court for resentencing.
