Worship at RUCC

Music Sunday, May 17

This Sunday, we celebrate our music ministry at RUCC. Our kids will learn a new song in Children’s Circle! The Celebration Ringers will serenade us with special bell music. Lastly, the Covenant Choir will be joined by a string orchestra and will present an exciting newer composition called Illuminare by Elaine Hagenberg. See you there! Music director David Wells.

Caring for Each Other

Bring Your Prayers

During worship, we are trying something new for our prayers - there will be a sheet at the back of the sanctuary with space for prayer concerns and joys…please write LEGIBLY whatever you would like to share with the community that day, and it will be shared during our prayer time together. Prayers may be edited for length, and it helps if you identify the person’s relationship to our community.

Prayer Request:

  • Prayers for Karyn Buchanan, daughter-in-law to Bill and Carol Buchanan, who has thyroid cancer.
  • Prayers for peace in Ukraine.
  • Prayers for our search committee and our worship area in a time of transition.
  • Prayers for students, teachers, and staff at the end of the school year.

Ongoing concerns:

  • Tom Miller
  • Bill Buchanan
  • Ruth Jordan
  • Jon Herbert

Please send prayer requests to Pastor Jake at jake@redlandsucc.org

Note from Board President

Ever wish you could just have a chat with someone on the board about an idea you have or a concern for the church you'd like to share? Well, you can! Easily! I hang out in Micah Room in Mosaic Hall from 10:00 a.m.- noon on Tuesdays. Just stop by; I will be glad to see you!

Groups & Gatherings

Next Chair Yoga, Wednesday, May 20 and 27

Jeanne Andrews is a gifted yoga instructor. We thank her for leading us toward health and wellness. For the next two weeks, chair yoga will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Covenant Hall. Give it a try! It is gentle yet effective. So good for your mind and body. Donations appreciated.

Super Shepherd Sunday is on Sunday, May 17

Open to everyone. On these four Sundays of the year, no other meetings or activities are scheduled so that you all are free to come. I hope each of you will come to your group’s potluck, eat, and enjoy the company, maybe even meet and get to know members of your group that you have never really spoken to before. It is also a time to get new information about new things happening at church, such as becoming an accredited Creation Justice Church.

Group 1: Kara and Ross Tolan will meet on the church patio.

Group 2: Karen Twichell and Karen Walsh will meet at Karen Twitchell’s home.

Group 3: Pam Dunn and Cid Breyer will meet at Cid’s home.

Group 4: Maegan Hill and Jayne Miller will meet at Donna and Larry Asmus home.

Group 5: Heather Abushanab and Heather King Shamp will meet at Heather A’s home.

Group 6: Dawne and Kevin Simmons will meet at the Simmons’ home.

Group 7: Kathy Economen and Pat Gordon will meet in Founders Room at church.

Each of your group leaders will contact you by email. If you have questions, contact your group leader or me—Judith Turian, Shepherd Area Leader.

Bible Study Monday, May 18

Our Bible Study topic this week is fascinating and relatively obscure: the goddess Asherah, who is mentioned sporadically in the Old Testament, and is sometimes unnamed or called by various names. Who is this Pagan goddess, and why is she found in the Old Testament?

Please join us in the Youth Room this week as we discuss some of the Old Testament passages that contain references to this mysterious figure:

Deuteronomy 16:21, Judges 3:7 and 6, 1 Kings 15:9-15; 16:31-33, 18:17-40; much of 2 Kings; and 2 Chronicles 15.

We'll also be using Chapter 5 of the book Fierce by Alice Connor as a supplementary text.

Please join us in the Youth Room on Monday, 5/18 at 7:00 p.m. First-timers welcome!

For more information, contact Andrea Morics.

Game and Conversation Night, Saturday, May 23

Game and Conversation night is the 4th Saturday of most months. We may skip a month if Hospitality is hosting some major events the same month. On 5/23, Saturday, we hope to see you at 5:30 in Covenant Hall. It is for all ages, and we love it when the kids and adults hang out together. Bring your favorite game or join others - we have a wide variety of games, including Bingo! We are going to skip dinner and give Chef Kim and the kitchen crew a night off so they can join in the fun. If you can bring a sweet treat to share, that would be great. Everyone who comes gets a prize. The prize table is an opportunity to add an item that you no longer use, but you think someone else might want. This is a great time to bring a friend and introduce them to our wonderful church. Fun, friendship, food!

RUCC Book Group, Sunday, June 7

The RUCC Book Group is reading A Marriage at Sea by Sophie Elmhirst, and will be discussing this at the next meeting on June 7, at noon in the Founders Room.  The group presenter will be Diana Sommer.

“This is nonfiction that reads like fiction – the best kind.”- USA Today

A Marriage at Sea is a study of couplehood in extremis: Sophie Elmhirst’s enthralling account of Maurice and Maralyn Bailey’s adventures on the ocean shows what the common hazards of married life look like amid utter disaster"- NY Times

Social Justice

Racial justice message

After the Supreme Court’s recent decision weakening the Voting Rights Act, Black clergy across Louisiana and beyond are mobilizing congregations to protect voting power through early voting, community organizing, and direct advocacy. Pastors describe the ruling as a setback but are urging their communities not to disengage, emphasizing accountability, turnout, and collective action. Their response highlights how faith leaders are stepping into a critical civic role as legal protections for Black voters erode.

The Wider Church

In the second quarter of 2026, RUCC Wider Ministries activities and the proceeds from the Electronic Waste Collection in February paid for registration for a table of eight at the Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast National Day of Prayer sponsored by the Redlands Area Interfaith Council (RAIC) held at the Orton Center, University of Redlands on May 7.

Bless and Be Blessed

Bless & Be Blessed is a space for our church family to share new or gently used items they no longer need. Whether you’re looking to pass something along or find something useful, this is a simple way to care for one another and practice good stewardship within our community. Contact the office or send the information to the View when you have an item to offer or an item you need.
