Sixth Sunday of Easter, May 10
"Telling the Truth"
Philosophers struggle over the concept of truth - most of the arguments have to do with finding a reference point to use as a standard. Can we trust our human nature to guide us - or are the values of our government or culture reliable? For persons of faith, our relationship with God is meant to be our guide - but whose image of God, whose version of the teachings of Jesus are authoritative? Come join us for worship in person or online as we sort through what is true for persons of faith on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., Rev. John Pomeroy
Scripture: John 14:15-21

Bring Your Prayers
During worship, we are trying something new for our prayers - there will be a sheet at the back of the sanctuary with space for prayer concerns and joys…please write LEGIBLY whatever you would like to share with the community that day, and it will be shared during our prayer time together. Prayers may be edited for length, and it helps if you identify the person’s relationship to our community.
Prayer Request:
- Prayers for Emmanuel, deported to Honduras.
- Prayers for Karyn Buchanan, daughter-in-law to Bill and Carol Buchanan, who has thyroid cancer.
- Prayers for peace in Ukraine.
- Prayers for an end to the war in Iran and support for all families that have lost loved ones in the war.
- Prayers for Michelle McNevin, her uncle Ted has passed from life to Life.
Ongoing concerns:
- Tom Miller
- Bill Buchanan
- Ruth Jordan
- Jon Herbert
Please send prayer requests to Pastor Jake at jake@redlandsucc.org

Super Shepherd Sunday is on Sunday, May 17
Open to everyone. On these four Sundays of the year, no other meetings or activities are scheduled so that you all are free to come. I hope each of you will come to your group’s potluck, eat, and enjoy the company, maybe even meet and get to know members of your group that you have never really spoken to before. It is also a time to get new information about new things happening at church, such as becoming an accredited Creation Justice Church.
Group 1: Kara and Ross Tolan will meet on the church patio.
Group 2: Karen Twichell and Karen Walsh will meet at Karen Twitchell’s home.
Group 3: Pam Dunn and Cid Breyer will meet at Cid’s home.
Group 4: Maegan Hill and Jayne Miller will meet at Maegan’s home.
Group 5: Heather Abushanab and Heather King Shamp will meet at Heather A’s home.
Group 6: Dawne and Kevin Simmons will meet at the Simmons’ home.
Group 7: Kathy Economen and Pat Gordon will meet in Founders Room at church.
Each of your group leaders will contact you by email. If you have questions, contact your group leader or me—Judith Turian, Shepherd Area Leader.

Game and Conversation Nights
Game and Conversation night is the 4th Saturday of most months. We may skip a month if Hospitality is hosting some major events the same month. On 5/23, Saturday, we hope to see you at 5:30 in Covenant Hall. It is for all ages and we love it when the kids and adults hang out together. Bring your favorite game or join others - we have a wide variety of games, including Bingo! We are going to skip dinner and give Chef Kim and the kitchen crew a night off so they can join in the fun. If you can, bring a sweet treat to share that would be great. Everyone who comes, gets a prize. The prize table is an opportunity to add an item that you no longer use but you think someone else might want. This is a great time to bring a friend and introduce them to our wonderful church. Fun, friendship, food!

Racial justice message
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down Louisiana's congressional map, ruling that the state relied too heavily on race when creating a second majority-Black district. Voting-rights advocates warn that the decision further weakens the Voting Rights Act and could reduce Black voters' ability to elect candidates of their choice in future elections.
