Worship at RUCC

Second Sunday of Lent, March 1

"Are You Listening"

Sometimes we need a pretty dramatic jolt to change our point of view on things. Nicodemus in our text this week already has an open mind and has approached Jesus under the cover of darkness to learn more about this teacher and healer. Still - Nicodemus has a hard time comprehending a renewal in God’s Spirit! What event or shock has changed your life choices? Come join us for worship in person in the Sanctuary or online as we consider together the movement to a faith perspective this Sunday!

Rev. Jake Pomeroy

Scripture: John 3:1-11

Caring for Each Other

Bring Your Prayers

During worship, we are trying something new for our prayers - there will be a sheet at the back of the sanctuary with space for prayer concerns and joys…please write LEGIBLY whatever you would like to share with the community that day, and it will be shared during our prayer time together. Prayers may be edited for length, and it helps if you identify a person’s relationship to our community.

Prayer Request:

  • Prayers for those of us with ongoing medical concerns.
  • Prayers of healing for all with broken family relationships.
  • Prayers for Jon Herbert, who has moved home on hospice care.
  • Prayers for Larry Rose as he begins treatment for prostate cancer.
  • Prayers of healing for John Walsh, who fell and tore up his skin badly on his arm.
  • Prayers for compassion, shelter, and safety for all who are threatened by ICE presence and enforcement.

Ongoing concerns:

  • Tom Miller
  • Bill Buchanan
  • Ruth Jordan
  • Mary Lou Haney
  • Craig Wesson

Please send prayer requests to Pastor Jake at jake@redlandsucc.org

Transitions

Settled Pastor update

We have completed our video interviews with candidates and are now ready to move into the next phase of the search: bringing finalists for an in-person interview. We have invited our top three candidates to come to Redlands. Their profiles, video interviews, and videos of services and sermons are impressive, and we’re excited about the possibilities. Each candidate brings different strengths, and the in-person visits will help us discern who would be best to lead us toward the future. Because of the busyness of the season, the visits will not be completed until late April. So, we ask for your patience and support as we take the next step in our search process.

Stewards Committee updates

The kitchen remodel is complete. Many of you pitched in to get it done. Special thanks to the kitchen project team: Pam Dunn, Stacey Greene, Mark Sternberg, Kim Lara-Kane, and Jane Troy. Well done! And yes, that is our organ under construction in the corner of the sanctuary. More pipes are coming, and a façade is being built. So what’s next?

Your Stewards Committee has listened to and categorized our congregation’s facility management concerns within four primary objectives.

· Improve the safety of our parking lot for our aging members and those with disabilities.

· Increase safe accessibility to our facility and garden areas.

· Reduce water loss and ensure a healthy garden by upgrading irrigation throughout the garden.

· Decrease reliance on fossil fuels by installing a solar- powered energy system.

We are researching each of these concerns by applying the following criteria: Project effectiveness and disruption, cost feasibility, regulatory compliance, funding resources, time management, and project planning. This will allow us to provide you with a well-informed report for your consideration.

Barbara Shields, Stewards Area Leader

Be Safe at Church

We have had a couple of falls in the last few months, so now is an important time to remind ourselves to take care of each other around our church campus! Try walking to your car or in the garden with a buddy; you can help steady one another! Stewards are looking at repair projects in the parking lot and our garden areas, but designs and bids take time to sort out. We will repaint markers for our accessible parking spots and hope those visual markers will help us all! Mind how you go!

Groups & Gatherings

Lenten Series Continues this Week

Still Speaking, Still Becoming: Faith, Community, and Meaning in a Changing World

Four Tuesday Evenings in Lent

What does it mean to live a thoughtful, meaningful Christian faith in our time?

This Lenten season, Redlands UCC invites you to a four-week conversation exploring how faith is shaped at the intersection of institution, community, and individual experience. Together, we’ll reflect on trust and belonging, identity and calling, and how we each shape our personal theology within our public, everyday life.

These gatherings are designed for listening, reflection, and respectful conversation—no preparation required, and no pressure to agree. Whether you’ve been part of the church for decades or are still finding your place, you are welcome.

Soup supper begins at 5:30, and then we transition to our conversation. Please bring your own bowl and utensils for the meal. See Stacy Kaiser on Sunday to sign up to help with these meals.

Tuesdays | 5:30–7:30 PM Feb 24 • Mar 3 • Mar 10 • Mar 17

Bible Study to go on a short hiatus

Bible Study is on hiatus for four weeks, in order to leave the calendar more open for the Lenten Series, which began Tuesday, February 24.

We will resume meeting on March 23. Stay tuned for details on what we will be studying at that time--and please make plans to join us then!

Helping Hands

CARING FOR KIN, March

For our March collection, we are going to try to supply several local organizations with some of the personal/grooming items that they most need.

Some of the organizations need sample or travel-sized items, while others require the regular-sized products.

The most common items asked for, so far, are:

   ~ deodorant

   ~ toothpaste

   ~ shampoo

   ~ conditioner

   ~ shaving cream

   ~ body lotion

   ~ sanitary napkins

Please start searching for "deals" and let the rest of us know if you find a place where we can get more for our money!

I will have more details for you in next week's View, including which organizations need which items.

(Check our facebook page, as well.)

Thanks for your kind hearts and generous natures!

Social Justice

Racial justice message

San Francisco moved forward with a formal apology to Black residents for decades of discriminatory laws and policies. Reparations advocates welcomed the apology but emphasized that true repair requires material commitments beyond symbolic gestures.

Environmental justice message

The Trump administration has rescinded the central scientific finding that underpins much of the nation's climate pollution rules, the 2009 Environmental Protection Agency endangerment finding, which was a determination that pollutants from developing and burning fossil fuels, such as methane and carbon dioxide, can be regulated under the Clean Air Act. The endangerment finding stemmed from a section of the Clean Air Act focused on regulating vehicle emissions. So, the EPA is also ending rules to reduce climate pollution from cars and trucks. Transportation is the largest source of direct greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.

The Wider Church

February 2026

At the first quarter meeting of RUCC Wider Ministries in 2026, we decided to donate to four nonprofit organizations, including the Wildlands Conservancy.

Founded in 1995, The Wildlands Conservancy is now active in three Western states, primarily in California, having established 25 nature preserves covering 200,00 acres. Whitewater Preserve, Oak Glen Preserve, Bluff Lake Reserve, and Bearpaw Reserve are familiar to many in the Redlands area. The non-profit system aims to preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the Earth and to offer programs that enable children to experience the wonder and joy of nature. The lands are open to the public at no charge. wildlandsconservancy.org.

Bless and Be Blessed

Bless & Be Blessed is a space for our church family to share new or gently used items they no longer need. Whether you’re looking to pass something along or find something useful, this is a simple way to care for one another and practice good stewardship within our community.  Contact the office or send the information to the View when you have an item to offer or an item you need.
