I cannot see that well, which is entirely my fault. In 2020, I had a prescription for bi-focal glasses and failed to fill it. This was a decision of pride and procrastination, and now I am just a mess of taking off the glasses I need for distance and struggling with mid-distance and reading.
In this e-bulletin we are celebrating and recapping the last three months of 2022. A vibrant time when we capped off a year that began in the hardest part of the pandemic for us and finished with a gradual emergence from much of the challenge (although still very much in pandemic measures). This was a time of celebrating the seasons, both Halloween and the holidays, time to get together as a full staff team to learn at the all-staff day and time to settle into the manager changes of the summer.
Just like my ophthalmological situation, it would be easy to stay right here and know that we are doing good things, maybe set aside the distance prescription completely. That, however, is not the style of this agency. In the fall we went through our first formal internal quality audit, QUEST, and worked to take a hard look at what we do as an organization. In measuring our work against standards that would prove high quality we learned so much about our strengths and where we have some work to do. We now have a good work plan, goals to keep on improving the processes and a target to do the audit all over again next September.
In our quality review we are looking very closely at all areas of the agency to ensure that we are doing the best job possible. We have started a Diversity Committee, created training about social roles and made changes to the QUEST team. Through our planning and our commitment to quality we are looking well into the distance to see what we need to do now to reach the goals of the strategic plan and the goal of quality improvement. This agency and everyone in it involved in making it run smoothly day to day is definitely taking the bi-focal view in order to keep on the journey to make lives better, our communities more inclusive and the culture richer for everyone - here in the up close present and well into the future.
