Remember - if you don't sign-up, you can still attend!

This is just to give us idea of numbers and how much food is needed!

From Our Commodore:

Charles Souliere, "Charmar II"

Today is Tuesday, November 5, and our country faces a major decision as to which direction it will go in the future. Likewise, the following Tuesday, November 12, FIYC faces again a major decision as to our future direction.

This past Spring, the Membership overwhelmingly approved a plan to replace our dock. While we certainly have sufficient funds to provide for the down payment, without changes, we may not have available funds to support the monthly mortgage payment. On Tuesday, November 12, Club Members will vote to fund the plan to finance this monthly payment. As this is a generational plan, the burden must be fairly distributed among current and future members. As promised, there will be no assessment of current members.

As previously presented, the Dock Reconstruction Committee plan is to raise dues $150 per year for the next two years, and add five new memberships to the club for each of these two years. While this may seem to some to be a burden, this plan is absolutely necessary, as it will allow us to meet our monthly mortgage payment for the dock for the next 30 years. It will also guarantee sufficient funds to provide for other planned and unplanned capital improvement items that will certainly arise in the future, including a new ice machine and the replacement of the HVAC system, which will be necessary in the near future. Please attend the meeting on November 12 and support your Club. Per the By-Laws, only Members present at this meeting are allowed to vote, and a two thirds majority is needed to pass this proposal, so please make attendance a priority.

On a lighter note,

Jingle Shells, Jingle Shells, Jingle All the Way

to the

Change of Watch

Saturday, December 7th!

Work continues on preparations for the Change of Watch, and if you have not done so already, please click below for information and to make your reservations to attend. This is a fantastic event that you do not want to miss, as we honor those who have served our membership this past year, and celebrate those who will serve in 2025. As the month of November develops, we will be asking for volunteers through the SignUpGenius program to help with the preparations. Please volunteer your time to make this event a great success!

From our Vice Commodore:

Lori Ulsh, "Bad Ice"

2025 is quickly approaching! I am working with the Budget Committee on the preliminary budget for 2025. Once approved by the Board of Trustees, the final Budget will be presented to the membership at the January Membership Meeting.

I had the honor of attending the Viking Yacht Club Commodore’s Ball. Their event was held at the Tacoma Yacht Club. It was a fun “Fiesta” night attended also by Rear Commodore Todd and Heather Lohse and Jeff and Holly Walston.

We'll have a Friday Night BBQ on November 22nd - don’t’ forget to bring your drinks, something for the grill, and something to share.

The Gig Harbor Lighted Boat Parade is December 14th. While FIYC is not holding a formal event this year, this is always a fun event to grab some friends and enjoy a beautiful night out!

Our final event of the year is the New Year’s Eve party. If you or a group of people would like to be in charge of this event, please reach out to me as soon as possible.

I hope you all saw the email regarding a very important vote to take place at the November Membership Meeting. You can click below to review what was sent out last week. We will be voting on a dues increase and raising the cap of overall Membership. If you have any questions before hand, please feel free to reach out to me at vice-commodore@fiyc.com. I hope to see you all at the meeting.

From our Rear Commodore:

Todd Lohse, "Lah Dee Dah"

"I've met the most interesting people while flying or on a boat. These methods of travel seem to attract the kind of people I want to be with." Hedy Lamarr

As fall creeps in, we get the opportunity to look back at experiences, friendships,

and memories we've created throughout the past year at FIYC. I'm certainly 'Thankful' for them all.

Our Members have been fantastic this year, stepping up to help at the Clean Up events, Music Festival and cruises. Again, I'd like to 'Thank' each and every volunteer who stepped up to help when the Bosun's whistle blew. Fortunately, we get to do it all again-next year!

It's never to0 early to start planning for next year's events. If there's an event that you'd like to lead, please let me know. Here's a few events to keep in mind as things slow down this winter:

From Our Past Commodore:

Fletcher MacGregor, "Ila Faye"

We've got the boat in mothballs - pretty much. Some minor things to take care of, but for the most part all things marine are on the back burner. The holidays - Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's

will be upon us before we know it along with all that is involved with each event and getting together with our various friends and relatives. We have a few major dinners planned and scheduled - both at our place and at our daughter's home. It's always a good time with lots of laughs.
The Change of Watch is coming up in a few weeks and that will mark my last official duty after a 4-year run through the "chairs" at FIYC. It has been a great experience - challenging at times - but rewarding throughout. Our first year was in the middle of Covid and the major clubhouse renovation.
As we leave, we are on the cusp of the replacement of the dock - the largest and most expensive project ever for the Club. We continue to uncover strong leaders from within that always seem to rise to the occasion. Thank you Charlie (and Lori - 60 days and counting)!
Rhonda and I want to thank all of you that have helped us through this journey. See you soon!

From Our Fleet Captain

Blake Patjens, "Salty Gina"

Happy November!

I am pleased to share that our 2025 cruises are booked and will be published upon the Membership vote of Budget in January.

I hear that many of the cruises have Cruise Captains-in-waiting, with a few openings - so don't hesitate to step up and help out! I want to thank everyone for a great year and I will look forward to next year’s boating season.

I am excited for Curt Wikstrom to take the reins and hope for record attendance at cruises next year. See you on the water!

....a note from the Editor: With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching, expressing our gratitude is just one way to show our appreciation for those who help make Fox Island Yacht Club a place we are proud to call ours! For the November 14th edition of the Tides and Currents, please send a small note (one or two sentences!) of why you're grateful for Fox Island Yacht Club or a Member who has gone above and beyond for you! All entries will be submitted as written, with your name attached, unless you request to remain anonymous! Please send your entries to trustee5@fiyc.com.
