Zufall Health Cuts Ribbon on New Home in West Orange, a 15,000-Square-Foot Facility That Will Expand Capacity for the Community's Underserved


On Thursday, December 14, Zufall Health unveiled its new, state-of-the-art facility at 49 Mount Pleasant Avenue in West Orange! The event, broadcast by PBS/NJ Spotlight News, marked the long-awaited completion of Zufall's first-ever ground-up construction project. Relative to Zufall’s office at 95 Northfield Avenue, the new facility will double medical capacity, triple dental capacity, and bring all West Orange operations under one roof. Zufall expects to end 95 Northfield Ave operations and begin welcoming patients to 49 Mount Pleasant Ave in early 2024.

Be Well Benefit Kicks Off Fundraising for New Medical Van and Honors Eva Turbiner


Zufall Health supporters gathered in October to raise funds to replace the health center’s aging medical van and to pay tribute to former President and CEO Eva Turbiner. The event raised more than $200,000 toward a new doctor’s office on wheels. A touching video highlighted the van's impact, featuring patients like Juan, a Sussex County farmworker who regularly receives care on the van.

Historic Goodale Pharmacy in Dover Is Now Part of Zufall Health


Earlier this year, Goodale Pharmacy and Surgical Supply, the 150-year-old retail pharmacy in Dover, became part of Zufall Health. This significant acquisition adds a retail pharmacy – a store that dispenses prescription and over-the-counter medications – to Zufall’s service offerings for the first time and further eases patients' access to prescription medications.

Refugee Patients Welcomed With Compassionate, Comprehensive Care



Through the State Refugee Health Program, resettlement organizations refer newly-arrived refugees to Zufall Health for their first encounter with the U.S. health care system and the opportunity to establish ongoing medical care. Refugees like Hassan, a Zufall patient who fled Afghanistan after being held captive by the Taliban, often have difficulty accessing health care and many arrive with significant histories of trauma.

Dental Assistant On-the-Job Training Program Fills Workforce Gaps


Dental assistants (DAs) play a crucial role in any dental department, ensuring patients receive timely and quality dental care. In the Dental Assistant On-the-Job Training program, a tuition-free initiative funded by the Delta Dental Foundation, trainees learn chairside dental assisting and radiology skills while working in Zufall's dental department. Upon successful completion of the course and exam, trainees are guaranteed full-time positions as DAs at Zufall.

Early Developmental Screenings a New Medical-Behavioral Health Priority


Most children in New Jersey do not receive developmental screenings, or checks for their attainment of developmental milestones. In response, Zufall is introducing an Early Childhood Development (ECD) program. This program, a collaboration between the health center's medical and behavioral health departments, will implement universal developmental screenings for Zufall patients aged 0 to 5 during pediatric well visits in Dover and West Orange and timely access to follow-up services.

Meet Your Provider: Angela Otto-Ryan, DNP, APN


Pediatric nurse practitioner Angela Otto-Ryan, DNP, APN, finds motivation in the meaningful relationships she has built with her patients and their families during her two years at Zufall. Otto-Ryan is a Spanish speaker and first-generation American Latina whose parents overcame the challenges of immigration, poverty, and health disparities. For these reasons, Otto-Ryan finds it easy to relate to her patients and work collaboratively with them to manage their health.
