Zufall Health Brings Smiles to Veterans with Free Dental Care
Generously Supported by Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation
On Saturday, June 15, 70 veterans from across New Jersey gathered at Zufall’s Dover Dental location for Smiles for Our Heroes, where they received free dental care courtesy of sponsor Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation. Spanning all ages and military backgrounds, the veterans shared a deep gratitude for the much-needed and often long-awaited dental treatments they received. The full-day, patriotic event also featured music by the Denville String Band, speeches from Dover Mayor James Dodd, Assemblywoman Aura Dunn (NJ-25), and Assemblyman Christian Barranco (NJ-25), as well as art activities, chair yoga, therapy dogs, a barbeque lunch, and health education.

In March, surveyors from The Joint Commission visited several Zufall sites to review adherence to various standards including patient satisfaction, infection prevention, and emergency preparedness. How New Jersey's "Cover All Kids" Expansion Has Changed Health Care Access for Patients Like Asumi
In early 2023, Governor Phil Murphy expanded his Cover All Kids program to open eligibility for NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) to all income-qualifying children, regardless of immigration status. Thanks to this expansion, Asumi, a high school student and patient at Zufall Health, has been able to access urgently needed surgical care and enjoy significant health improvements.

Meet Your Provider: Nereida "Nettie" Mendez, MS, LPC, NCC, PMC-C
Nereida “Nettie” Mendez, MS, LPC, NCC, PMC-C, is a Behavioral Health Counselor and Recovery Support Services Coordinator at Zufall. Her first day at Zufall coincided with Superstorm Sandy's landfall in New Jersey in 2012. Since then, Mendez has excelled in crisis response, notably during the 2018 Dover seven-alarm fire. "Being there after the fire to help people process the trauma of losing their homes, possessions, and memories is one of my all-time most meaningful experiences with Zufall.”

WISEWOMAN Program Drives Heart Health Among Zufall Patients
Central to Zufall's mission is addressing barriers to good health, and the WISEWOMAN (Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for WOMen Across the Nation) program is one clear example. This program aims to prevent heart disease among low-income, underinsured, or uninsured women aged 35-64. Results show improvements in participants' nutrition literacy, A1C levels, blood pressure, and weight.
