Why Did Reno Transition to Six Wards?
The transition from five to six wards is the result of state legislation signed into law during the 2017 Session of the Nevada Legislature. After a comprehensive community engagement process, the Reno City Council selected Final Map Option E as the new ward map. The sixth ward replaces the at-large council member position. Map Highlights
- It meets the population balance requirements with each ward having approximately 43,000-45,000 residents.
- Downtown Reno is represented in one unified ward.
- Based on community input, key neighborhoods and communities of interest—like Midtown, the university area, and North Valleys—have been thoughtfully grouped to keep them together.

Your voice matters! Each of Reno’s six wards is represented by a dedicated Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB). These meetings are a fantastic way to stay connected, learn about local projects, and tackle community issues alongside your neighbors.
Key objectives for NAB meetings:
- Improve communication between Reno citizens, City staff, and City Council Members.
- Provide citizens the opportunity for early engagement on important community issues.
- Create a venue for citizens to review and provide feedback on certain development projects.
