BTEA MWBE Leadership Council Meets with Empire State Development’s New EVP for Minority & Women Business Development

BTEA’s MWBE Leadership Council met with Jason Clark, ESD’s newly appointed EVP for MWBD. The BTEA and the MWBE Leadership Council acquainted EVP Clark on the work we do to advance the interests of our MWBE contractors, discussed several issues of concern, and received a pledge from EVP Clark to work with the BTEA and MWBE Leadership Council on the reauthorization of Article 15-A.

BTEA Meets DOB Commissioner James Oddo

to Discuss Fire Suppression on Cranes

Following the partial crane collapse on July 26th, the BTEA visited with DOB Commissioner Oddo and his staff to learn of the Department’s plans to reduce the likelihood of a similar incident and share ideas to further strengthen crane safety.


DOB released a new protocol for the erection of tower cranes requiring a third-party certification.

BTEA Launched Mental Well-Being Awareness During Construction Suicide Prevention Week

The week of September 5th was Construction Suicide Prevention Week. According to the CDC, construction has the highest rate of suicide among all occupations. Suicide is the leading cause of death in our industry, and four times the national average. The BTEA produced a suicide awareness video tailored for our members along with a host of additional resources. Please take the time to review these resources and share with your colleagues.
