Dear UFCW 1776 member,

By now you have likely heard news of the proposed merger between Albertsons and Kroger. Please click here to view a copy of the joint press release from both companies. It is anticipated that this merger will take 18-24 months to complete and will face some challenges.

I want to clarify a couple things:

  1. Your union contract will remain in place throughout this process. It appears there is no operating agreement between the companies at this time, so for now each company will continue to operate separately and as competitors.
  2. There will be stores spun off or closed. It appears likely that all or most of those locations are in the Western and Midwestern parts of the country. That does not guarantee there won’t be locations affected within our local union jurisdiction.

I want to assure you that we are monitoring this closely and will work together with our International Union and all UFCW Locals throughout the country to protect and enforce your rights throughout this process.

We will continue to update you as more details emerge. A virtual meeting will be scheduled in the near future, please be on the lookout for that invitation. If you have any questions, kindly contact your union representative.

Yours in solidarity,

Wendell Young IV

President
