EXCITING TIMES AHEAD FOR NKBA – NYC CHAPTER!
Dear NKBA-NYC Chapter Members & Community,
I am thrilled to reach out to you as the newly elected President of our vibrant NKBA-NYC chapter. It is truly an honor to step into this role, and I’d like to express my gratitude for the warm welcome and support I've already received.
Having previously served on the board as the Programs and Communication chair for the past two years, I've had the privilege of witnessing the incredible efforts of our chapter firsthand. It's inspiring to see how each member contributes their unique perspective from different sectors and roles in the industry, fostering an environment of the intelligent exchange of ideas and learning.
As we navigate the post-pandemic landscape, I recognize the need for an all-hands-on-deck approach to propel our community forward in this changed environment. I am committed to continuing the inclusive collaboration and innovative traditions with our 2024 board/council. Together, we will build on the outstanding offerings that have been the hallmark of our chapter, providing new experiences, networking opportunities, and fun learning experiences for the next generation of our talented professional members.
A heartfelt thank you to our outgoing President, Julie Schuster, for her leadership during these challenging post-pandemic times over the past two years. Julie's spirit has been instrumental in guiding us through this period of transformation, and we are grateful for her dedication.
As we embark on the new year, I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to our dedicated officers who will continue to serve, including Rose Ott as Sec’y-Treasurer, Jeannine Price overseeing Membership, Joan Ravasy leading Programs, and Toni Sabitino as Sponsorship chair. Additionally, a special welcome to our newest board officer taking charge of Communications—Jamie Keel. With their

APARTMENT ASSETS—HOW TO MAKE SMALL SPACES FEEL LARGER
By Diana Mosher -- There’s more to designing apartments than just scaling down every piece of furniture to create more space. Whether it’s a full-time urban home, pied a terre or vacation rental, every project requires a custom solution. Wall beds that convert to a sofa, desk, or table almost always make sense. So do ottomans that double as storage and can also be used as a small coffee table.

A YEAR-END REVIEW OF CURRENT TRENDS
FROM KBB
Our good friend Sharon Sherman highlighted in the @kitchen Bath Business magazine article: what were the top trends impacting our industry this year? Six pros share their insights and predictions for 2024: Social trends are often reflected strongly in the choices homeowners make, impacting what designers specify, manufacturers produce, and retailers sell.
Even if your clients are not yet in their 50s or beyond, or working on their "forever homes," or find themselves in a caregiving role to an older family member, searches for aging-in-place bathrooms and handicap-accessible bathrooms more than doubled in 1Q2023

GROWTH THROUGH EDUCATION – MARCH 2001
By Jerry Owens, Chapter Rep – The theme, "Growth through Education," that the Manhattan Chapter has adopted for the year 2001 is an ambitious one. We have, indeed, taken the first step. Our first scheduled kitchen design class for beginners, taught by the National Kitchen & Bath Association certified educators, will take place in Manhattan in October.
We are guaranteeing NKBA "National" that at least thirty people will attend. This class is something that we can build upon. A day in October for the chapter to remember.
We need to grow. The chapter must have more members... Live bodies with ideas of what they want and are willing to put in the time to help. There are any number of ideas that we can work on, but first and foremost, we must fill the thirty to fifty openings in this class.
The last chapter meeting was one that, if you missed it, was a great learning opportunity. The presentation is a form of education. Planning is done so everyone can take something away with them. It is in our own best interest to attend, where we can, at our leisure, absorb the surroundings of new and different showrooms. I personally never go home without a new thought or idea, most of which eventually turn into money for my firm.
The future of this industry is the new people who are just starting. Our chapter is trying to get these newcomers involved. To encourage greater meeting attendance, member firms now only need to pay for one attendee, and any number may attend from the same firm. It is one of the ways we are trying to increase education. This policy should expose the junior members of our business to the future of our industry.
If the national board of directors adopts the proposed new by-laws in October, then a whole new form of membership will become a fact of life. There is a great chance that this will happen... Stay tuned...
