APRIL CHAPTER MEETING: CELEBRATING EARTH DAY WITH DACOR
By Diana Mosher -- There are 365 days in the year to protect the planet—but only one Earth Day! The NKBA Manhattan Chapter celebrated with Dacor at the monthly Chapter Meeting on Thursday, April 18. The Dacor Kitchen Theater culinary team prepared an Earth Day themed menu with farm fresh ingredients and exotic flavors. The evening’s signature drink was a Sunny Passion Fruit Capirinha inspired by Brazil's national cocktail.
| | |
The celebration included a presentation by Cassie Smith, Senior Manager, Corporate Sustainability for Dacor’s parent company Samsung Electronics and a demonstration by Brent King, Smart Things Manager at Samsung 837 the NYC flagship store and interactive experience center. Using recycled materials in their dishwashers is a huge part of sustainability, but it’s just one part of Dacor’s green story. There’s also a huge focus on reducing energy consumption.
According to Cassie, the EPA’s Energy Star program attests that certified products can save 24 percent of household energy bills, which is about $450 a year. That's the greenhouse gas equivalent of 200 plus gallons of gasoline consumed in an entire year.
"Multiply that across multiple products across larger spaces,” said Cassie. “You can imagine that there's quite a significant impact from an environmental perspective. I'm really happy to report that 100 percent of Dacor refrigerators and dishwashers are Energy Star certified.” In 2024, Dacor’s latest dishwasher made Energy Star’s “most efficient” ranking.
| | |
Another innovation is Dacor’s AI Energy Mode which reduces energy usage by collecting daily, weekly and monthly trends to predict energy consumption. And, the Smart Grid feature monitors energy, prices and demand from utility companies. It limits or delays the operation of some functions within a product to reduce energy and save money when energy prices or demand are at their highest.
The presentation concluded with Brent’s demo of Samsung’s Smart Things App. The platform empowers design clients to understand and control the energy usage of the appliances in their kitchens and throughout the home. Thank you Dacor for inviting Cassie and Brent to share their product knowledge with the NKBA Manhattan Chapter! It was a great evening!
If you missed April’s Chapter Meeting at Dacor, you can catch all the fun by watching our event coverage here."

30 UNDER 30: ANNA BLINOVA
By Diana Mosher -- Congratulations to NKBA Manhattan member Anna Blinova, Creative & Design Director at VIGO Industries for her well-deserved recognition by the NKBA Thirty Under 30 list. The program is widely regarded as the leading showcase for the brightest young talent working in kitchen and bath design and remodeling. Anna joins other accomplished kitchen and bath industry professionals from other chapters around the country who have been identified as rising leaders.
With a bachelor's degree in architecture, Anna brings a deep understanding of the technical aspects of design and an appreciation for aesthetic elements. While at VIGO, she has led her team to win several national and international design awards, including the prestigious Best of Product Award by Interior Design magazine, iF Design Awards, Architizer A+ Awards and The Architect's Newspaper Awards. Her diverse skill set spans product design, interior design and architecture. She has been named Honoree Creative Director of the Year by Interior Design magazine. Read our interview with Anna Blinova.
What does NKBA Thirty Under 30 recognition mean to you?
Being recognized as one of NKBA's Thirty Under 30 means a lot. It validates my hard work in kitchen and bath design and motivates me to keep innovating. I'm excited for the new opportunities and connections this award will bring.
Has architecture/design always been a passion?
Growing up in Eastern Europe, architecture and design were always passions of mine. I was passionate about drawing from the age of three and attended drawing classes at an architectural academy for as long as I can remember—right up until university. This experience was crucial in training my eye to distinguish what's good and bad in design. This early interest naturally evolved into a career where I now apply my passion in the kitchen and bath industry, constantly exploring new designs and technologies.
What's the best thing about working in the kitchen and bath industry at VIGO?
At VIGO I’ve had the opportunity to find and organize the best talent into a great team. We're at the cutting edge of design and technology, which allows us to constantly innovate and push the boundaries in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Our team environment is incredibly collaborative and supportive, fostering a creative atmosphere where everyone's ideas are valued. This combination of top talent, innovation and teamwork makes every day exciting and rewarding.
When did you become a member of the NKBA Manhattan Chapter?
I became a member of NKBA Manhattan Chapter in 2016. One of the key benefits of being part of this chapter has been the extensive networking opportunities it provides. Through events and meetings, I've been able to connect with industry professionals who share a passion for kitchen and bath design. These connections have not only expanded my professional network but have also brought valuable insights and trends that influence my work at VIGO. Additionally, the social interactions have been enriching, offering a sense of community and support among peers.
