Bissell Pet Foundation Empty the Shelters

Event Recap

The shelter once again participated in Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event this past December. During the two-week event, 49 dogs and 15 cats found homes in time for the holidays!

One special pup who found a forever home during the Empty the Shelters event was Noel. She arrived at the shelter in poor condition—extremely underweight and unable to stand or walk. Shelter staff hoped for the best in her recovery but prepared for the worst. After recovering, she was named Noel, the Christmas Miracle. Noel, pictured above, is now enjoying life with her new mom and dad!

Trails and Waggin' Tails Hike Event Recap

At the end of December, Shelter staff kicked off an event series with Arizona State Parks and Trails, where volunteers hike with shelter dogs at Picacho Peak State Park. The event gives shelter dogs a break from the shelter environment and allows volunteers to tour the park!

21 dogs and over 80 volunteers participated in the December hike, giving the dogs multiple laps around Picacho Peak's nature loop. The next hike is scheduled for January 18th; click below to learn more.

Community Spotlight

We want to give a very special thank you to the Combs High School Cross Country Team for volunteering their time to enrich the day of our shelter dogs last month. The team visited our shelter and volunteered to walk the shelter dogs for their daily walks.

Shelter Team Spotlight

This month we would like to recognize one of our Senior Animal Protection Officers for her hard work and dedication to Pinal County.

Officer Kelly Wadkins has been with the shelter for over ten years. Officer Wadkins is one of our training officers and models hard work and compassion. Officer Wadkins ran the most calls in 2024, more than 300 of those calls being priority 1 calls, which was 30% of all of the priority one calls for the entire county!

Thank you, Officer Wadkins, for having an outstanding work ethic and continually being a great role model for your trainees!

Pinal Pup of the Month

Meet our Pup of the Month, Jupiter (A275270). Jupiter was brought in as a stray on July 5, 2024, likely spooked by the 4th of July fireworks, and escaped his yard with his doggie sibling. Jupiter's sister was quickly adopted, leaving Jupiter alone at the shelter. Jupiter is a very sweet guy, he loves to visit a local school weekly. Jupiter also gets along with other dogs.

Contact us at 520-509-3555 to schedule a meet and greet with Jupiter.
