CareerSource Florida Corner:

Florida Workforce System Transformation

In February 2023, the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors approved the next steps in a multi-year comprehensive plan, formally known as the Florida Workforce System Transformation Plan, to further elevate Florida’s already #1 in the nation talent pipeline.

The Florida Workforce System Transformation Plan underscores the CareerSource Florida network’s commitment to continuous improvement and creates a framework for innovation. The plan addresses several requirements of Florida’s Reimagining Education and Career Help (REACH) Act. Click the button below to read more about the components and implications of the plan.

VR Partners with Association for Persons with Disabilities on HS Mock Interview Event

The Florida Department of Education's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation recently partnered with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities's Northwest Region Office and Escambia County Public Schools to facilitate mock job interviews for students with disabilities. Taking place at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church in Pensacola, the event offered each of the 61 high school students in attendance the opportunity to interview with three different employers. This was a terrific example of collaboration to provide future employees important hands-on experience with the interviewing process. Florida Chamber Professionals Conference Sparks Collaboration Ideas

Most communities have access to a chamber of commerce at some level--be it city, county, regional or otherwise. Regardless of the scope, these organizations work to nurture business-friendly environments for the areas they serve. Many of these benefits extend to service and nonprofit organizations, especially in the realms of networking and fostering relationships for future collaboration.

The Able Trust recently had the privilege of attending the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals' Spring Conference in Cocoa Beach and participating in a panel discussion on recruiting and retaining workers from "hidden talent" populations, including persons with disabilities. It was a great opportunity to share our organization's mission with a statewide group of influential thought leaders, and moreover, to highlight the ways in which we can be a collaborative resource for businesses with regard to disability employment.

As we all seek more robust opportunities for collective impact, my question to all of you is: Have you joined or considered joining your local chamber of commerce? Let us know by answering the simple one-question poll in the Activities section of this newsletter. If you'd like to share more about your experiences, feel free to reach out to us and start a conversation.

Summer is fast approaching and the heat is on the rise. Let's follow that same trajectory, use our resources thoughtfully and ramp up our work together to drive disability inclusion in Florida's workforce.

Raising Awareness Across Florida

The Able Trust Discusses Hidden Talent on Chamber Panel

At the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals's 2023 Spring Conference in Cocoa Beach earlier this month, our President & CEO Allison Chase presented "Hiring (and Helping Your Members Hire) Hidden Talent," along with fellow panelists Ricky Dixon of the Florida Department of Corrections and Katie Lopez of the Tampa Bay Chamber. The panel discussed the benefits of hiring from hidden talent pools, including persons with disabilities, in recruiting and retaining outstanding employees and addressing Florida workforce shortages.

This was a terrific way to raise awareness about innovative, unconventional hiring practices to chamber leaders from around the state.
