Most communities have access to a chamber of commerce at some level--be it city, county, regional or otherwise. Regardless of the scope, these organizations work to nurture business-friendly environments for the areas they serve. Many of these benefits extend to service and nonprofit organizations, especially in the realms of networking and fostering relationships for future collaboration.
The Able Trust recently had the privilege of attending the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals' Spring Conference in Cocoa Beach and participating in a panel discussion on recruiting and retaining workers from "hidden talent" populations, including persons with disabilities. It was a great opportunity to share our organization's mission with a statewide group of influential thought leaders, and moreover, to highlight the ways in which we can be a collaborative resource for businesses with regard to disability employment.
As we all seek more robust opportunities for collective impact, my question to all of you is: Have you joined or considered joining your local chamber of commerce? Let us know by answering the simple one-question poll in the Activities section of this newsletter. If you'd like to share more about your experiences, feel free to reach out to us and start a conversation.
Summer is fast approaching and the heat is on the rise. Let's follow that same trajectory, use our resources thoughtfully and ramp up our work together to drive disability inclusion in Florida's workforce.
