Ten Partners Awarded 2025-26 Futures in Focus Grants

We are excited to share the news that a record number of applicants for the 2025-26 version of the Futures in Focus youth program likewise resulted in the most grants distributed to date. Programs in a total of ten counties were selected for funding.

This year's recipients include the Baker County Education Foundation; DeSoto County Education Foundation; Holmes County Education Foundation; the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Inc.; Manatee Education Foundation; the Public Education Foundation of Marion County; the Education Foundation of Martin County; the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County; the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools; and the FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools.

Now in its third year, the Futures in Focus program is supported by a partnership between the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations and The Able Trust. The program provides Florida middle and high school students with disabilities the chance to engage in postsecondary education and career exploration activities. In its first two years, Futures in Focus introduced hundreds of students to future education and training options through engaging activities like running a custom dog biscuit business, pursuing professional certifications, and touring local hospitals to learn about the wide range of careers in the healthcare field.

We look forward to another outstanding year of Futures in Focus!

Jacksonville Business Advisory Council Welcomes Students

Duval County's High School High Tech students had a wonderful time meeting members of the Jacksonville Business Advisory Council (BAC) at an interactive event last month. The students took part in networking games and icebreakers, learned about The Able Trust and careers with local businesses, and took home swag bags.

We want to thank the staff at The Arc Jacksonville and BAC members Jacksonville Electrical Authority, the Jacksonville Sharks arena football team, Publix Super Markets, the Jacksonville Icemen hockey team, Alive Credit Union, the Jacksonville Humane Society, the Florida Theatre, Jacksonville Zoo & Botanical Gardens, Eco Relics, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Baseball Club, the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary, Sporting JAX, and the Church of Eleven22 for this terrific event.

High School High Tech Student Highlights

When she first joined the Gulf County High School High Tech program three years ago, Zoey Ham was mainly looking to improve her self-confidence and social interaction skills. She accomplished that and much more, developing into a leader among her peers and discovering a passion for culinary arts thanks to a work experience handling a wide range of jobs at a youth softball league concession stand.

Zoey is on track to graduate from Port St. Joe High School this year and looks forward to starting her own business in the food industry one day. Learn more about Zoey's journey here.

Thank you to WPLG Local 10 News for welcoming Broward High School High Tech for a full-scale station tour. Students explored a wide range of careers in broadcasting, journalism, meteorology, media production and more; met with on-air personalities and members of the station's staff; learned about the technical and soft skills necessary for success in the television industry; and even practiced using the green screen on the live set!

Meet our Supporters: Nicole Hagerty on the Impact of The Able Trust's Work with Families

Consortium of Florida Education Foundations Names The Able Trust Outstanding Private Partner

At our Crossing the Stage event in March, Nicole Hagerty was moved to support The Able Trust after hearing firsthand accounts from alumni of the High School High Tech program and family members of our former and current students. As she states, "[I] learned about the opportunities this organization provides and was in awe ... Hearing family testimonies about how this organization makes the unimaginable possible inspired me to take action."

Visit our donor information page to meet more of our donors and learn what motivates them to invest in our mission.

Our team was honored to receive the Outstanding Private Partner Award from the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (CFEF), our partners in the Futures in Focus youth program, at this year's ConnectED conference. The Able Trust relies on our strong partnerships with organizations like the Consortium and local education foundations to ensure our youth programs reach students in their communities.

Thank you to our friends at CFEF for continuing to be wonderful co-collaborators in serving Florida youth with disabilities!
