U.S. President Joe Biden released a statement celebrating the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence on August 14. President Biden said, “India and the United States are indispensable partners, and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership is grounded in our shared commitment to the rule of law and the promotion of human freedom and dignity. Our partnership is further strengthened by the deep bonds between our people. The vibrant Indian-American community in the United States has made us a more innovative, inclusive, and stronger Nation.”
U.S. Lawmakers Join Millions of Indian Americans in Celebrating India’s 75th Independence Anniversary
Top American lawmakers, governors and influential officials joined millions of Indian-Americans to celebrate India's 75th Independence Day and pledged stronger ties between the world's largest and oldest democracies. Messages celebrating India’s independence poured in from Members of Congress including Representative Deborah Ross (D-NC), Representative Grace Meng (D-NY), Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA), Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Representative Ted Deutch (D-FL), Representative Tom Suozzi (D-NY), Senator Todd Young (R-IN), Representative Chris Pappas (D-NH), Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), and Senator Jack Reed (D-RI).
India Races on As Fastest Growing Economy
India continues to be the fastest growing economy in the assessment of international agencies despite numerous challenges Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said recently. She emphasized the role played by the government to battle the numerous challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia - Ukraine War and supply chain disruptions.
U.S. Seeks to Enhance Defense Partnership with India
The United States seeks to bolster the defense partnership with India and take it to a new level through greater cooperation in intelligence collection, drones and fourth and fifth generation aircraft. The Senate Armed Services Committee released its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which serves as the annual budget for the U.S., recently and included a section on “Enhancing the Major Defense Partnership with India.”
USAID Chief Visits India to Enhance Strategic Partnership
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) chief Samantha Power’s India visit is targeted to advance US-India strategic partnership and address the global food security crisis. Power met with key Indian businesses, NGOs and government officials to reinforce the US and India's long history as strategic partners and collaborators across development issues including food security, climate change, and adaptation through mechanisms such as the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and digital development.

Prime Minister Modi: India to Become Developed Nation in 25 Years
India will aim to become a developed nation within 25 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a national day address, with policies to support domestic production in power, defence and digital technology. Speaking from the 17th century Red Fort in Delhi as India celebrates its 75th year of independence from British colonial rule, Modi exhorted youth to "aim big" and give their best years for the cause of the country. "We must turn India into a developed country in the next 25 years, in our lifetime," said the Prime Minister.

India Bans Single-Use Plastics
India banned some single-use or disposable plastic products recently as part of a plan to slowly discontinue the use of the wasteful and environmentally dangerous material. For its first step in the plan, the federal government has identified 19 plastic products that are not very useful but have a high possibility of becoming waste. It is illegal to produce, import, keep, give them out, or sell them.
