India successfully launched its first solar mission, Aditya-L1, less than two weeks after a historic uncrewed moon landing near the lunar south pole. Launched from the Sriharikota space center, the spacecraft aims to study the sun from a position 1.5 million kilometers (930,000 miles) from Earth, known as L1. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) equipped Aditya-L1 with seven payloads to study the sun's corona, chromosphere, photosphere, and solar wind. The mission, scheduled to take 125 days to reach its destination, is crucial for understanding solar activity and providing early warnings for potential disruptions to Earth's power grids caused by heightened solar activity.
