| | Prime Minister Modi Attends G20 in Bali | Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed at the summit venue by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, ahead of the formal opening of the summit. "The Summit will witness extensive deliberations on ways to overcome important global challenges. It will also focus on ways to further sustainable development across our planet," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted. He also briefly interacted with US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron. | | India Takes Over Presidency of G20 | Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday officially handed over the G20 presidency to India at the end of a summit of the bloc’s leaders in Bali. India will officially assume the G20 presidency from 1 December 2022.Taking over the presidency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Prime said it was a matter of pride for every Indian citizen. | | In India update, World Bank lifts GDP growth forecast to 6.9% | The World Bank raised its gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for India during the current financial year (FY23) to 6.9 per cent from 6.5 per cent, citing the economy’s relative resilience to external headwinds, and “a strong out-turn” in the second quarter of the current financial year. | | Tata to Enter Chipmaking in India: Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran | India's Tata Group will begin producing semiconductors in the country within a few years, a move that the chairman of the group's main company said will make the South Asian country a key part of global chip supply chains. Let us work together to shape a new paradigm — of human-centric globalisation," he said in an article which appeared in several newspapers and was posted on his website too.” | | India To Provide Free Food Grains to Over 800 Million Poor People For 1 Year | India will provide free food grains to more than 800 million people for one year. "Food grains to be made available free of cost to more than 800 million beneficiaries till Dec 2023 under National Food Security Act," Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar wrote on Twitter after a Cabinet meeting. | | India to Democratize Online Shopping with E-Commerce Network | India is preparing to launch a government-backed ecommerce initiative to “democratise” online shopping, in an ambitious attempt to challenge the dominance of companies such as Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. | | U.S. India Deepen Defense Ties | | Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. Colin Kahl met with Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra at the Pentagon on November 8. Dr. Kahl reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-India Major Defense Partnership to shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific. The two leaders exchanged views on developments related to mutual security interests, including in the Indian Ocean Region and Europe. | |
