December 2023

Year-End Giving Campaign

When you give to Communities in Schools Dallas, you are:

1. Creating a Web of Support:

With your donation, you contribute to building a network of unwavering support around students. CIS provides not just supportive engagement for the school campuses, students, and families, but also individualized case management, group sessions, and schoolwide services.

2. Empowering Student Potential:

Your generosity offers students the resources and opportunities they need to not only stay in school, but to reach their full potential; opening doors to a future they might not have thought possible.

3. Fostering Lasting Change:

Together, we're not just addressing immediate needs; we're sowing seeds for lasting change. Your support helps us instill the values of education, resilience, and community, shaping leaders of tomorrow.

Your support offers hope for students facing adversities in, and out of, the classroom. It's a testament to your belief in the transformative power of education and community. Will you join us in this endeavor to create a ripple effect of change?

Remember, a donation made before the end of the year is not just a gift—it's an investment in a brighter future. Together, we can make a difference.

Thank You to the Cotton Bowl Foundation!

We are honored to be a recipient of this year's Cotton Bowl Foundation selection process! The $50,000 grant extended to Communities in Schools of the Dallas Region is impacting a total of 130 elementary, middle school and high school campuses with four main components of service – academics, behavior/mental health, social services and attendance – delivered to students in coordinated, caring and individualized ways.

"We are incredibly thankful for the Cotton Bowl Foundation's support, as the funding and advocacy from the organization are supporting more than 10,000 PreK to 12th-grade public school students in our area," said Adam Powell, Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region President & Chief Executive Officer. "The funding is going to support our clinical team which provides mental health services to students in 14 Independent School Districts across North Texas. Without partners in this work, Communities In Schools would not be able to meet the growing need we face annually, so we thank the Cotton Bowl Foundation for this support."

Registration Is Open For Youth Mental Health First Aid In 2024

Youth Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based intervention training designed to help adults identify, react to and support a child (age 10-18) experiencing mental health or addiction issues or is in active crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan on how to intervene. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance abuse, disorders inclusive of psychosis indicators, disruptive behavior disorders, and eating disorders.

Participants will get hands-on practice utilizing the concepts discussed in the training, through interactive group activities, role plays and discussions. Participants will leave feeling ready to “say something” when they “see something.”

Communities In Schools is a proud provider of Youth Mental Health First Aid courses as we continue to empower our communities to assist in the lives of others. We want to train you! Please join us for this eight hour certificate course, open to all adults (18 and over).

This course is offered at no cost to participants, thanks to the generosity of our Safer Students, Stronger Schools campaign supporters. Sessions for 2024 are now open for registration.

With Appreciation to Blake Lewis

This December, our past Board Chair, Blake Lewis, will roll off the CIS Dallas Board. We want to take a moment and thank Blake for his exceptional leadership as he led the organization through the Covid-19 pandemic, the start of the Safer Students, Stronger Schools campaign, and the expansion of CIS Clinical services. Adam Powell, President and CEO of CIS Dallas says, "Blake Lewis has been an integral part of CIS growth over the last several years. In addition to being an impassioned advocate of our work, he has also been a committed champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, which has helped to reimagine and reinvigorate the board."

We wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season and a joyous start to 2024! We look forward to your continued partnership in the New Year.
