An Invitation to Join Us in the Garden
“And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east;
and there he put the man whom he had formed.”
Genesis 2:8
Gardens are a reflection of the wonder of creation—a reminder of God’s perfect artistry and design. A garden is contemplative, restorative, and abounding with symbols of growth, nurture, God’s love for humanity, and our love of nature. Scriptural references to gardens form a complete circle—from the creation in Genesis, to Jesus’ betrayal, death and resurrection in the Gospels, and the restoration of a new Eden in Revelation. Gardens are a significant part of our Anglican tradition, historically providing nourishment and medicinal plants for the clergy and community—and in more recent times—places of prayer and contemplation.
As with our historic church, the Garden at Saint Andrew’s is layered with beauty and meaning and it is an important aspect of our community ministry. In our garden one can admire the spring blooms and fall foliage, learn about herbs mentioned in the scriptures, rest in an intimate space dedicated to the memory of a mighty canine named Hercules, walk a medieval-style labyrinth, and honor the final resting place of beloved parishioners.
Our Garden at Saint Andrew’s is a reflection of decades of love and care by parishioner-gardeners. A dedicated team meets every third Saturday from 9 am to 12 noon to tend our garden and enjoy fellowship. We want to invite you to become part of this ministry. For more information, please contact Annette Geraghty. All levels from novice to experienced gardeners are welcome to participate.

Sending Forth Fr. Tyler
| |
Thank you
Fr. Tyler!
This past Sunday, August 3, we said thank you to Fr. Tyler Proctor, who has been our curate for the past two years. Our parish has been blessed beyond measure by Fr. Tyler and his ministry. We offered God's blessing upon him and his future ministry, and we expressed our gratitude for his service to this community, and beyond, during his curacy.

A Discernment Update From Saint Andrew's Parishioner, Laura Rhodes:
A New Chapter in My Journey of Faith
Dear Friends,
For quite some time, I have been in the discernment process for the Diaconate and, throughout this process, have appreciated the regular prayers of the parish as we sought God's guidance together. After deep prayer and reflection, I have come to recognize that I am not being called to ordained ministry—but I do feel clearly and joyfully called to serve.
In response to that call, I have enrolled in the Education for Ministry program through Sewanee, the University of the South. This four-year course of study, which is offered locally, explores scripture, church history, and theology. I am very excited about the journey ahead, and to continue to discern God’s call.
Thank you for your prayers and your many encouraging words throughout this time of discernment. I am especially grateful that this new direction allows me to study, and to remain with our dear community at Saint Andrew’s.
With gratitude and peace,
Laura

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's
For detailed parking instructions, click here.
***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***
|
Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.
| Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications |
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.
If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.
We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

We are always seeking additional volunteers for the Saint Andrew’s choir, which currently gathers on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (and not on Wednesday evenings) to prepare the music for the 10:30 mass. This more limited time commitment provides an excellent opportunity for prospective new members to “try us out.” If you have questions, contact the Parish Office—or just show up on Sunday morning!
