Spartan Project SEARCH 2022-23 Cohort

There is officially five weeks left of the school year! This past month, Interns have continued to learn independence, social and employability skills at their job sites. They have also worked with skills trainers to finish up navigation training skills to help with getting to work after the program. First Employment Planning Meetings took place, and it was a great time for interns, families and supervisors to reflect on the rotation so far. Areas for improvement and goals for the remainder of the rotation were discussed. During classroom time, interns worked on self-reflection and learning about their personal emotions, triggers and admitting mistakes. They also worked on defining their disabilities and creating scripts to help with disclosure to future employers. Lastly, interns examined accommodations they might need at work and in the future to be successful. Everyone is very excited for graduation and future employment opportunities.

Community Collaboration

Congratulations to our accepted applicants for the 2023-24 school year! We are excited to announce nine interns have been accepted to start in August.

The Michigan Statewide Project SEARCH meeting was held in person at the Kalamazoo RESA to finish out the month of April. This was a great time to collaborate and share ideas with other Project SEARCH sites across the state. We even toured the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons Training Center.

On the banks of the Red Cedar

On the last day of April, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and MSU Ticket

Office, provided Spartan Project SEARCH with tickets to cheer on the MSU Baseball team as they faced Northwestern. The weather ended up being a bit chilly and wet but the Spartans left with a win and the interns, graduates, staff and their families all enjoyed time together out in the community. It was the first sporting event attended at the John H. Kobs field for many of our participants, and they were also able to practice their independence skills in the community. A huge thank you for this opportunity and Go Green!
