Dear Members:

The fire is out, cleanup is mostly complete, and the property owners who wish to preserve the urban/forest middle-class Altadena neighborhood are beginning to rebuild their homes. Working with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, our YMCA Alumni Lyon Chapter was involved from the start in fire relief efforts. We contributed volunteer hours and dollars, as well as personal gifts from several of our members, our chapter’s treasury, and ultimately, from National YMCA Alumni as well.

Our national board contributed $2,000 from funds left over from our recent reunion cruise to match our local efforts. Their gift included our chapter, which contributed more than $10,000 and significant volunteer hours through the Crowell Family YMCA in South Pasadena, a central hub for receiving and distributing relief supplies.

I am proud to say that YMCA Alumni, and our Lyon Chapter in particular, played a significant role in providing emergency fire relief supplies to Altadena families when they were needed the most. Thank you to all of our members who contributed towards this effort.

BACKYARD BBQ AT CASA WARNOCK:

You are invited to attend our 2025 Lyon Chapter summer event, which will include good fun, food and fellowship!

This is not a potluck! We will grill one or two of our favorite barbecue recipes, provide side dishes and dessert and nonalcoholic beverages. If you want beer, wine or a cocktail, please bring those yourself, and take home any that’s left over.

Our new backyard guest house is done and broken in, and we would welcome a couple or two to spend the night and break up what for you would be a long drive. Call Bob and Monica if interested. (323) 313-3043.

From the North/West

Get to the 134 Freeway East (Glendale area) and exit Harvey Drive which is just past the transition road to the 2 Freeway. Turn right on Harvey and then an immediate left onto Wilson Ave. Continue East on Wilson; it will become Colorado Blvd. Continue east a mile or so to Dahlia Drive, just past Trader Joe’s. Turn left to 5149.

From the South/East

Get to the 210 Freeway and take it west to the 134 west. Continue a short way to the Colorado/Figueroa off-ramp. Stay to your left on the off-ramp, curving back over the freeway and down onto Colorado Blvd. After a few blocks you will see Trader Joe’s on your left. Turn right up Dahlia to 5149.
