Healthcare Staff Suffer Patient Assaults

“It’s not uncommon for our staff to be kicked, pinched, spit on or hit by patients,” said Sarah Moore, Registered Nurse, and Manager of the MRH Emergency Department. “The abuse can also be verbal and comes from both patients and family members. People say terrible things, sometimes threatening us or even threatening our families.”

“You have a wide range of emotions. At times you feel very elated and joyful that you are able to help these children and do things for these patients. You are also sad about some of the cases that you see and some of the treatment that hasn’t been done or done improperly. You also have frustrations based on the fact that they don’t have the efficiencies like we have here in the United States,” said Dr. Johnston. 

The Foundation received nearly $100,000 in donations and contributions in 2023 in support of the hospital. Donations have helped provide medical equipment such as contributions towards the Emergency Department, EMS, and Pediatric Services.
