Open for Business
by Christine Fenner
President, Waconia Chamber of Commerce

There is always a lot going on in Waconia during the summertime: taking kids to their summer activities, the 4th of July, the Carver County Fair, getting out on Lake Waconia, or even just enjoying the weather on a patio, something is always happening. A big thing happening this summer is the continued construction affecting Main and Olive Streets. The construction season affects everyone in one way or another. I’d encourage you to continue to support our local businesses who are particularly affected by it.
The purpose of this construction is to improve our streets, utilities, pedestrian facilities, and drainage of the downtown area. This project is happening in two phases. Phase 1, which runs from Summer 2023 – Summer 2024 and affects the section of Main Street that runs between Maple Street and Olive Street. Phase 1 also affects the section of Olive Street between Main Street and First Street. Continue Reading...

| June Chamber Luncheon Recap | |
Waconia Then and Now
Ever wonder what Waconia was like when there were no houses on Lake Waconia or what it would be like to go downtown and see Humphrey Bogart’s latest film at the theater?
Thank you to our favorite retired Waconia High School history teacher, Clark Machtemes, for presenting several old pictures (with photo credit going to the Carver County Historical Society). Other long-time Waconia residents and historians present included, Ron Machtemes, Paul Melchert, Darrel Sudheimer, Kim Mackenthun, Steve Yetzer, Keith Peters, and Wendy Petersen-Bjorn. They reminisced about Waconia’s fascinating history and gave us a glimpse of the community we love from decades ago.
Special thanks to the American Legion Post 150 - Waconia, MN for hosting our luncheon location and to Iron Tap for catering lunch.
