A Letter of Gratitude from the Bazaar Community

We write this letter of thanks with love and gratitude for our St. Alban's community.

There is no way we could have succeeded without the help of so many, and it is almost impossible to thank everyone properly. Whether you served as chairperson, donated items, assisted with set up, decorated, greeted our patrons, baked treats, made beautiful crafts, or parked cars, you contributed to the success.

The Bazaar made $21,975.19 on Saturday for a total of $25,779.31, including Handmade pre-sales.

Some of our favorite 2024 memories include:

  • Our many volunteers, including several of our youth who gave up their Saturday to help and did it with a smile.
  • The smiles of children and their families left through our doors after getting their faces painted so beautifully, scoring a wonderfully wrapped gift for their parents, or buying a special toy in our toy room.
  • Our wonderful Choir and Choristers' voices filling the Parish Hall with beautiful music.
  • The spirit and joy of our Annandale community, who graciously waited for a parking spot or stood in line to enter our Bazaar.

On behalf of Poe Middle School, Belvedere Elementary, Bethany House, ACCA, Hypothermia Shelter, Samaritan Ministry, Second Story, and the numerous other community programs St Alban supports, we thank you.

St. Alban's Gift Wrapping Benefitting Outreach & Mission

Is Back!

Each Sunday in Advent the Wrappers will be hard at work in Room 11, doing what we do best for you! Beginning at 7:45 am, bring in your Christmas gifts prior to a service, and pick them up afterwards. Wrapping is free, but please consider making a donation to help the many mission and outreach programs of St. Alban’s.

What? Santa can't get those packages to church without the little ones finding out? Email kdwettstein@gmail.com to make arrangements for mid-week wrapping!

Meal Assistance for the Keiper Family

Our fellow parishioners, Adam and Caitrin Keiper, welcomed a new baby! They could use our assistance with meals over the next few weeks. I have set up a schedule for meals using the link below.

Here are the logistics - You would be preparing a meal for 2 adults and 3 children.  Caitrin says everyone eats chicken. One person is sensitive to tree nuts and another one to dairy. Please let Caitrin know ahead of time about any dish one of those things was in.

Please email or text Caitrin on the day you are scheduled to coordinate a drop off time. Her telephone number is 217-898-1385 or email at caitrin.keiper@gmail.com.

The delivery address is: 4625 Columbia Road Annandale, VA 22003

Adult Forum will resume on Sunday 12/8 at 9:15 in Room 11

Due to thanksgiving weekend, we will resume Adult Forums on Sunday, 12/8! Join us for a look at the Anglican Divines – the theologians and spiritual leaders who defined Anglicanism in an era of chaos and great change. On 12/15, Br. Alex will lead us on a forum about St. Nicholas – the man, the myth, the legend (but more importantly, an early church father!). All are welcome!

Caregiver Support Session

Sunday, December 1

Do you have someone you care for, support, or otherwise take care of? Join us with fellow caregivers in the library after the 10:30am service for fellowship and support! Snacks are provided.

First Friday Lunch on December 6

We will meet at 12:00 pm at Clyde’s at Mark Center on Beauregard. Sign-up information to follow! Please tell Sheila Massey, 703 978 8973 or Joyce Aument, 703 534 4927 that you are coming by Dec. 4. Bring a friend!

Advent Quiet Day on Saturday, December 7

From 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, Br. Alex will lead a quiet day. We will have ample space to practice contemplative prayer focused on lectio and visio divina. We will engage the themes of advent: the incarnation of our Lord, and His second coming. Email info@stalbansva.org or let Br. Alex know you’re intending to come. All are welcome! Light breakfast and lunch provided.

Advent Arts & Crafts Event

Saturday, December 14 from 4-6 pm

Fun for the whole family! On Saturday, December 14 from 4-6 pm, all types of crafts, ornament making, and advent wreath laying will be available to members of the church and to friends and local families! Please join us. Pizza will be served!

Can You Help Feed Our Shelter Guests?

In winter the Bailey’s Crossroads Shelter sometimes doesn’t have enough room for all who need a warm place to sleep. Several churches and mosques in our area open their doors to the Shelter’s overflow. St. Alban’s will host people from the shelter in our Parish Hall for two separate weeks.

The first week will be from Dec. 15-20 (but not Dec. 21). The second week will be from Dec. 29-Jan.4. We plan to feed them a simple meal each night. We need cooks and servers and cleaner-uppers. I’m told there will be between 30-40 people each evening arriving at about 5:30.

If you would like to help, please check on the sign-up board in the narthex. Get some friends together or ask another family to help you and select a convenient evening to bring a cheerful welcome and a hot meal to our guests. For more info email deloresbaisden@gmail.com or call her at 703-533-9532.

Annandale Christian Community for Action Updates

You helped donate 35 lbs of food this past week, thank you!

Food donations are greatly needed! ACCA continues to be in need of canned chicken, canned meat, peanut butter and pasta sauces.

In addition, volunteer drivers have been working overtime to deliver food to people’s homes. If you have a spare hour once every week or two, try doing a delivery. It can be very rewarding. You don’t have to drive on a regular schedule, but just when you have time.

Please drop off food donations in the Narthex, so that Fran Walinsky can take donations to the pantry each week. Monetary donations to ACCA are also welcome! For info, click here.

Contact Gail Coleman, gv.coleman@verizon.net or Debbe Heiman at deborahsheiman3@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Is God calling you to help make our worship together more beautiful?

Serving the church is one way to worship God, and also practically support your parish -- we need YOU to pitch in on Sunday mornings! We are always in need of Acolytes and Eucharistic Ministers to assist at the altar. Training is flexible! You can also be a Lector, Intercessor, and Usher with simple, on the job training. Sign up in the Narthex, or email Alex for more information.
