Civility with Fr. Jeff

This week Fr. Jeff invites us to talk about civility from a Christian perspective. Next week will begin a series exploring the theological depths of the Lord’s Prayer! All are welcome, please join us!

Ministry Sunday Spotlight

Altar Guild, Lectors & Intercessors, Hypothermia Shelter

This week's Ministry Sunday Spotlight is the Adopt-a-Highway program and the Ushers Team! Learn more by listening at the end of the service to a representative of the Altar Guild, or by stopping at their table during Coffee Hour in the Parish Hall!

As Father Jeff wrote in THE WORD, we are doing Ministry Sunday a little differently this year. Each week we will focus on one or two ministries immediately following the 8:00 and 10:30 Holy Eucharists and this week will be Altar Guild, Lectors and Intercessors, and Hypothermia.

Representatives from each ministry will be available to discuss how our combined efforts serve the mission of St. Alban’s. Please be supportive and plan to stop by for a visit, and when you do, ask yourself, “Where is God calling you to serve?” We can help find the right fit for you and your lifestyle. Whether you have one hour of time to donate or can chair an entire committee, there is a place for everyone at St. Alban’s.   For more information, please contact Karen or Rick Weinberg at rweinberg1@cox.net

About the Ushers Team!

Our ushers are a ministry of hospitality that helps make all, including newcomers and visitors, feel welcome and comfortable at our worship service.

They are a ministry of presence: The ushers begin their work at the services early, making sure the church is ready for those coming to worship, that lights are on, the church is neat, and that bulletins are ready to give to all attending.

They welcome all and hand out bulletins at every Sunday worship service. They

provide or get special support for those whose needs are made known. During the service, they play key roles in collection and communion. After services, they usually see that the church is neat and ready to be secured.

The ushers are constants at our worship services. If interested, contact Tom Tycz at tstycz70@gmail.com.

Saint Alban's Joins the Interfaith Community for Dialogue

In September, St. Albans became a member of the Interfaith Community for Dialogue (ICD). The ICD is group of representatives from faith based and associated organizations in Fairfax County dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and positive relationships among diverse peoples in and around Fairfax. They include representatives from the Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Bahai faiths. To meet this goal, the ICD holds community dinners, dialogues and educational programs, as well as service projects to enhance the well-being of the community. This will be the first event since St Alban’s joined and will be held in November.

Upcoming events are on November 10th and November 17th, focused on "Welcoming the Stranger." For more information and to register, click here.

Annandale Christian Community for Action Updates

You helped donate 32 lbs of food this past week, thank you!

Food donations are greatly needed! ACCA continues to be in need of canned chicken, canned meat, peanut butter and pasta sauces.

In addition, volunteer drivers have been working overtime to deliver food to people’s homes. If you have a spare hour once every week or two, try doing a delivery. It can be very rewarding. You don’t have to drive on a regular schedule, but just when you have time.

Please drop off food donations in the Narthex, so that Fran Walinsky can take donations to the pantry each week. Monetary donations to ACCA are also welcome! For info, click here.

Contact Gail Coleman, gv.coleman@verizon.net or Debbe Heiman at deborahsheiman3@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Is God calling you to help make our worship together more beautiful?

Serving the church is one way to worship God, and also practically support your parish -- we need YOU to pitch in on Sunday mornings! We are always in need of Acolytes and Eucharistic Ministers to assist at the altar. Training is flexible! You can also be a Lector, Intercessor, and Usher with simple, on the job training. Sign up in the Narthex, or email Alex for more information.
