Ministry Sunday Spotlight

Altar Guild, Lectors & Intercessors, Hypothermia Shelter

This week's Ministry Sunday Spotlight is the Altar Guild, Lectors & Intercessors, and Hypothermia Shelter! Learn more by listening at the end of the service to a representative of the Altar Guild, or by stopping at their table during Coffee Hour in the Parish Hall!

As Father Jeff wrote in THE WORD, we are doing Ministry Sunday a little differently this year. Each week we will focus on one or two ministries immediately following the 8:00 and 10:30 Holy Eucharists and this week will be Altar Guild, Lectors and Intercessors, and Hypothermia.

Representatives from each ministry will be available to discuss how our combined efforts serve the mission of St. Alban’s. Please be supportive and plan to stop by for a visit, and when you do, ask yourself, “Where is God calling you to serve?” We can help find the right fit for you and your lifestyle. Whether you have one hour of time to donate or can chair an entire committee, there is a place for everyone at St. Alban’s.   For more information, please contact Karen or Rick Weinberg at rweinberg1@cox.net.

Parish Office Closed on October 14

The office will be closed on Monday, October 14 in observance of Indigenous People's Day. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday!

Saint Alban's Joins the Interfaith Community for Dialogue

In September, St. Albans became a member of the Interfaith Community for Dialogue (ICD). The ICD is group of representatives from faith based and associated organizations in Fairfax County dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and positive relationships among diverse peoples in and around Fairfax. They include representatives from the Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Bahai faiths. To meet this goal, the ICD holds community dinners, dialogues and educational programs, as well as service projects to enhance the well-being of the community. This will be the first event since St Alban’s joined and will be held in November.

Upcoming events are on November 10th and November 17th, focused on "Welcoming the Stranger." For more information and to register, click here.

Christmas Bazaar Updates!

The Christmas Bazaar will be here before you know it!!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

DONATE. Donations are being accepted now, so bring your items to the parish hall closet in marked boxes and sturdy bags before November 15, 2024

This year, we need Tools, Sporting goods, Outdoor gear, Toys, Jewelry, Handbags, Scarves, Neckties, Jewelry boxes, movies & music (DVDs & CDs only), and Books; popular fiction (adventure, historical, crime, romance) books, particularly in paperback format, as well as history/autobiography books. Place items in boxes or sturdy bags marked with what’s inside. When choosing items to donate, consider what you or others would like to buy. All items should be clean and in good condition. Please ensure any battery‐operated items have a battery so the customer can see they work.

NOT SOLD AT THE BAZAAR: Electronics such as TVs, VCRs, DVD players, computers, printers, Furniture, Clothing, Shoes, Hats, and large handbags.

LARGE, HEAVY ITEMS: Please call the church office to make arrangements or email bazaar@stalbansva.org.

RECEIPTS FOR CHARITABLE DONATIONS: Are located in the Bazaar closet or by contacting: @ bazaar@stalbansva.org

Other Ways You Can Help:

VOLUNTEER.  Join our enthusiastic volunteers and help prepare and carry out the annual Saint Alban’s Christmas Bazaar. Do you have one hour? One day? How about a week? We are calling all volunteers to help decorate the parish hall, set up and take down the tables and chairs, move sale items in and out, and work in the cafe or one of the stalls. Much of the work starts the Sunday before the bazaar and continues in the evenings during the bazaar week.

SPREAD THE WORD. Encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to attend. If you’re new to St Alban’s or have never volunteered at the bazaar, this is a great way to meet your fellow parishioners.

For more information, contact the bazaar co-chairs Nick Huskins and Bethany Bower @ bazaar@stalbansva.org.

Annandale Christian Community for Action Updates

Food donations are greatly needed! ACCA continues to be in need of canned chicken, canned meat, peanut butter and pasta sauces.

In addition, volunteer drivers have been working overtime to deliver food to people’s homes. If you have a spare hour once every week or two, try doing a delivery. It can be very rewarding. You don’t have to drive on a regular schedule, but just when you have time.

Please drop off food donations in the Narthex, so that Fran Walinsky can take donations to the pantry each week. Monetary donations to ACCA are also welcome! For info, click here.

Contact Gail Coleman, gv.coleman@verizon.net or Debbe Heiman at deborahsheiman3@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Is God calling you to help make our worship together more beautiful?

Serving the church is one way to worship God, and also practically support your parish -- we need YOU to pitch in on Sunday mornings! We are always in need of Acolytes and Eucharistic Ministers to assist at the altar. Training is flexible! You can also be a Lector, Intercessor, and Usher with simple, on the job training. Sign up in the Narthex, or email Alex for more information.
