IEEE Achieves Record Numbers for Conference Publishing in 2024

Researchers from around the globe flock to IEEE to have their work peer-reviewed for publication by IEEE.

IEEE Conferences provide the premier platform for technical researchers to showcase and share their work, generate new ideas, and foster new collaborations with peers. The innovation and vision of IEEE’s technical communities and leaders sparked a record of over 272K conference papers to IEEE Xplore® in 2024.

CEE works to provide personalized support to conference organizers throughout their publishing journeys. Thorough review measurements ensure that submitted papers align with IEEE's quality standards. Ongoing communication with organizers and automation of operations results in timely submissions and publication of this important content. 

IEEE Conferences continue to be a staple for pioneering research while supporting our technical community and fostering an environment for new ideas to flourish. CEE wishes to thank and acknowledge the hard work and support of our volunteers leading the PSPB in 2024 for their partnership in the joint ad-hoc with our ICC.

On behalf of IEEE Conferences, Events & Experiences (CEE), we want to thank and acknowledge the leadership of Charlie Jackson, Chair of the IEEE Conferences Committee (ICC). For the past two years. Charlie’s dedication and commitment to IEEE conferences helped the community rebound in record numbers and tremendously impacted our growth trajectory.

Charlie brought invaluable insights as an active conference organizer, providing clear and effective leadership in addressing the need for new conference policies. His strategic approach helped navigate the quality challenges arising from unprecedented growth, ensuring continued success and sustainability.

Under Charlie’s leadership, in 2024, IEEE convened 589K conference participants, published a record 272K+ conference papers in IEEE Xplore®, and anticipates a record 2.2K IEEE Conferences held in over 100 countries worldwide.

We look forward to Charlie’s continued leadership as the Past Chair of the IEEE Conferences Committee and highly anticipate his future contributions to IEEE and beyond.

IEEE Conference Leadership Program Trains Volunteers at R10 Meeting in Singapore

A delegation led by Fred Schindler, VP of IEEE Technical Activities, traveled to the IEEE Region 10 meeting in Singapore to provide in-depth training on the importance of IEEE Conferences. 

Organized by the IEEE Region 10 Section Chapter Committee, the two-day symposium was designed to train volunteers from Region 10 Sections, building upon, updating, and reinforcing what had been presented in Hyderabad (2021), Kuala Lumpur (2022), and Goa (2023). The day 1 agenda included key topics such as building synergy among IEEE Society Chapters and IEEE Sections. 

The program's second day underscored the importance of quality for IEEE conferences, which are renowned research and innovation platforms. John Tracy, Program Manager of Conference Education in CEE, provided invaluable content support for the team. Topics included conference sponsorship, the Conference Application, and building your conference teams. 

A key program element was a comprehensive presentation on managing a strong technical program and noting best practices for conducting an effective peer review process. Additional topics included: understanding the IEEE Scope, best practices for paper evaluation, how to vet potential conference sponsors, and unethical publishing practices. 

Several volunteers led sessions throughout the program, including Amit Kumar, Chair of the IEEE Conference Organization Integrity Committee, and Abhishek Appaji, Conference Application Review Committee Member.

CEE thanks all the partners and IEEE OUs involved in this effort for their teamwork and dedication in reinforcing these essential conference topics. 

Tiziana Tambosso Shares RTSI 2024 Industry Focus Success 

Tiziana Tambosso, R8 Conference Coordinator and RTSI 2024 Steering and Entrepreneurship Events Committee Chair, shared what made this year such a continued success!

RTSI (Research and Technology for Society and Industry) was born in 2015 as the IEEE Italy Section's flagship conference. Its main objective was to promote and strengthen partnerships and cooperation between academia and industry. After six editions held in Italy, RTSI was transformed into an R8 portfolio conference because of its industry focus.

RTSI implemented innovative approaches by involving partnerships in the event program through keynotes, panelists, and plenary speakers. RTSI received support from the National Professional Associations of Engineers, which can assign credits to engineers participating in selected workshops, panels, and tutorials. This event had a special interest in the local community and industries, so workshops were offered in the local languages.

Technical support from three IEEE societies and special sessions contributed by many local chapters enabled this event to be interdisciplinary within the AI application fields of Energy, Transportation, Industry, Health, and Smart Living.

RTSI was a successful event with 117 papers accepted, 35 countries in attendance, and 320 participants. Six workshops in the event's program focused on innovative topics such as AI, Advancing humanity through technology, Robotics, and Entrepreneurship. The 2024 edition of RTSI obtained a positive result, with 25% of participants from industry.

RTSI 2024 had a significant impact on its community through:

• Facilitation of partnerships with local industry and other organizations, which may support ongoing region/section/chapter initiatives, internships, and collaboration opportunities
• Reaching students and Student Branches by creating opportunities to network together with IEEE leaders, distinguished speakers, and stakeholders, as well as gain experience as a volunteer.
• Fostering membership growth
• Strengthening the cooperation between IEEE OUs.

Professionals Gather at the November 2024 IEEE Meeting Series

IEEE leaders, professional staff, and conference organizers came together for the November 2024 IEEE Meeting Series. This year’s event was held from 20-25 November in Dallas, Texas, at the Hilton Anatole, known for having the largest art collection assembled for a hotel. The series brought together 525 in-person attendees and 46 virtual attendees. 

The series featured an array of 51 in-person/hybrid meetings, one virtual pre-meeting, and two virtual general sessions (Industry and Global Sales Update: TAB/PSPB Products and Services Committee and IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Technology for a Sustainable Climate).

The November Meeting Series was a productive and engaging wrap-up to another successful year at IEEE. The next event will be in 2025 from 12-17 February in Bellevue, WA, USA!
