Dear VBS Community,
As we prepare for the coming year, we want to share with you the latest COVID-19 protocols.
VBS Schools and Synagogue remain attuned to local and global issues surrounding the virus. We are committed to upholding the Jewish values that guide our community to honor our traditions while keeping the experience as low risk as possible for all. The following updates were made with consensus from the VBS Medical Advisory, VBS Pandemic Response Team, VBS Board of Directors and VBS Senior Leadership.
In alignment with LA County requirements, the following protocols will be effective immediately, and are subject to change at any time as conditions evolve:
- We strongly encourage the continued use of masks indoors, however masks are not required on campus (with the exception of close contacts as outlined below).
-
While we strongly encourage vaccinations and boosters, proof of vaccination is no longer required for individuals to enter campus for events.
- As always, those experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms should stay home.
The following protocols will be enforced for positive COVID cases and close contacts:
- All individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for a minimum of 5 days. Following the fifth day, if an antigen test is negative, the individual may return to campus. If the antigen test continues to be positive, the individual must isolate until they achieve a negative antigen test. Once a negative result is achieved the individual may return to campus but they must stay masked indoors for the full 10 days following the positive test result.
- For close contacts, following LACDPH guidelines, VBS uses a group tracing protocol which will require all close contact individuals to test once within 3-5 days following the identification of a positive case, and to monitor for and report any symptoms. Additionally, all close contacts to a positive case are required to mask indoors for 10 days, regardless of vaccination status.
If we would like to mask while on campus, may we do so?
-
As we consider the health and safety of the immunocompromised members of our community, congregants, staff and students may remain in masks, and we will continue to respectfully mind the values of shmirat ha’briyut (honoring the health of ourselves and others) and kehillah (community) through this update. As one community we will come together to make sure that all feel supported no matter the choice a family makes.
Are these changes permanent?
- As with all decisions during the pandemic, we reserve the right to reverse course if either the law mandates such a change or if we believe that the policy compromises the health and values of our institution.
VBS will continue to closely monitor the course this pandemic is taking, follow our health officials’ requirements and communicate these messages and changes to our community in a timely and understanding manner.
Thank you for your continued support as we navigate this and build a stronger community.
