Message From the President

In my first days as President, I envisioned a

re-energized organization with a focus on Values, Visibility, and Voice, the pillars of synergistic leadership. As we enter the second half of the year, we've made significant strides, including forming new sections in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, hosting a successful Spring Conference, and initiating key collaborations and proposals.

Shine the Light

Shine the Light is a new series on our members whose passionate efforts advance and align with our values, visibility and voice.

In this first issue, we feature Michelle Montgomery, AIA, Chair of the Emerging Professionals (EP) Committee.

AIA International Conference 2024 in Hong Kong - Registration Open!

AIA International and AIA Hong Kong proudly present our International Conference 2024, hosted in Hong Kong on October 24-26, 2024 (with optional extension activities October 23 and October 27).

We invite you to join us in October and explore ways to create a better built environment that responds to the unique challenges of our times.

2024 AIA International Design Awards – Call for Entries

We are thrilled to announce that the 2024 AIA International Design Awards are now open for submissions!

Deadline: Friday 2 August, 2024, at 5pm (Eastern US time).

AIA Sub-Saharan Africa the Newest Section

Exciting News: AIA International officially launched its Sub-Saharan Africa section, strengthening connections among architects in the region and globally.

Global Mentorship Program Update

The AIA Emerging Professionals have been actively in sessions focused on mentorship, licensure discussions, and upcoming events like the July session on AI tools, with preparations underway for a November speaker series on job application strategies and more.

AIA SE Asia Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Ho Chi Minh City Association of Architects

AIA Southeast Asia (AIA SEA) celebrated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Architects (HAA), focusing on partnership opportunities, membership accessibility, and international design awards to enhance member profiles globally.

AIA International Celebration at AIA24

At AIA24, we celebrated AIA International sections and design award winners, discussed our vision for Value, Visibility, and Voice, honored past and present presidents, and announced the establishment of the AIA Latin America and AIA Sub-Sahara Africa sections.

The event concluded with the announcement of bids for the AIA International Conference 2025 in Berlin and Colombo, with the winner to be revealed later.

AIA Intl Member News - New Launch!

AIA International members have launched INNOVATION Architecture in Coral Gables, Florida, led by principals Gustavo Ribeiro, Steven Miller, and Ed Mayer II, who collectively bring over 40 years of global architectural and planning experience.

2024 AIA International Strategic Council

At the annual business meeting at AIA24 in Washington, DC, on June 5th, proposed bylaws amendments regarding membership categories, including a notable proposal to change 'International Associate' to 'Internationally Licensed Architectural Professional,' were discussed but none passed, with plans to refine these proposals for next year's meeting.

AROUND THE WORLD

AIA UK hosted the 2024 Design Awards Gala at the Royal College of Physicians, designed by Sir Denys Lasdun, on 12 June 2024.

This event doubled as a Summer Party and an opportunity to celebrate AIA UK’s recent 30 year anniversary with our members and guests.

Highlights include AIA SEA's successful 2024 symposium in Vietnam and a memorandum of collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Architectural Association.

AIA SEA will continue to engage members with local talks and the Fall Symposium in Manila.

AIA Shanghai has organized a series of events including networking sessions, an ARE 5.0 Guide Lecture series to support architect licensure, and a project tour at New Bund 31, focusing on modern theater architecture and the Artyzen Boutique Hotel.

AIA Middle East has hosted a range of events, including Build Your House Qatar, an open house at Perkins Eastman, a presentation on theory and practice in architecture, participation in the AIA'24 annual meeting, and a panel discussion with AIAS Middle East.

AIA Latin America has launched collaboration initiatives with the Pan-American Architecture Biennial of Quito and the AIA COD Architecture Study Tour of Brazil, and is planning a regional mini-conference in Quito and another conference in Mexico.

AIA Japan's spring highlights included a one-day bus tour to Enoura Observatory, a visit to TOTO Gallery Ma, and honoring the late Fumihiko Maki, a strong supporter of the chapter.

In the past few months, AIA Hong Kong hosted a seminar on creating a bird-friendly city, a symposium at Build4Asia showcasing sustainable practices, and a Sustainability Practice Symposium in Ho Chi Minh City.

Looking ahead, the AIA International Hong Kong Conference is scheduled for October 23-27, 2024 (with optional extension activities October 23 and October 27).
