| What is BRP and How Will It Impact the Future of the P&P Industry? | Unbleached recycled fiber market pulp, also known as brown recycled pulp or BRP, is a new grade of market pulp that didn’t exist before 2017, but is expected to be a hot raw material in the Pulp and Paper industry within the next couple of years. BRP is produced using recovered paper that has been processed through state-of-the-art stock preparation systems, formed, dried and then shipped in bales or rolls. The material uses fiber from roughly 70-100% old corrugated containers (OCC), with mixed paper (MP) making up the remainder. It can be used as a replacement for traditional recovered fibers in the production of containerboard. | Kentucky Forest Industries Flood Relief Fund | |
The recent flooding in eastern Kentucky counties is actually more devastating that what has been shown on the national news. The Kentucky Forest Industries Association has officially started a fund raising effort to assist wood industry related families in eastern Kentucky to assist them in primarily repairing and rebuilding their homes. Donations can be made directly to KFIA or through our Go Fund Me Page which has a link below.
Any support and assistance you can provide in getting the word out would be very much appreciated.

| Construction Material Prices Stabilizing | Recently released new data showing that stability may be returning to the cost of construction materials as pandemic-driven volatility subsides, but because of factors such as high global energy prices, increasing interest rates, labor shortages, and fuel and freight costs, the reduction in commodity prices won't be felt until the beginning of 2023. The company’s Q2 Commodity Report for the United States also shows that tariffs on imported lumber and other materials are keeping costs higher for American builders. | Understand Ecological Impacts of Feral Swine and Learn Best Management Strategies to Deal with Them in tomorrow’s AFA Connect -August 18,2022 |

For Sara Velazquez and her husband, purchasing the 55 acres behind their rural Pennsylvania home was the start of a lengthy effort to preserve and resuscitate the hilly forestland.
The question was how to pay for that work.
“A nice, healthy oak forest – that’s what I want,” Velazquez, 28, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in June, sweeping her arm across the property’s shadowed valleys and mixed tree stands.
| Sustainability and Putting Our Best Foot Forward | I was chatting recently with a paper company CEO and he asked me how the
sustainability work of the campaign was being received. I told him I
feel like a rockstar when I meet with industry groups and individual
companies because of their genuine excitement when I share how we are
creatively finding new, unexpected and contemporary ways
to talk about our industry’s commitment to private forest owners and
replacing trees at a higher volume than they are sourced. And that the
industry is well on its way to meeting its $5 billion commitment to
recycling infrastructure by 2024. |

Last year’s auction and raffle raised almost $7,000.00 for our state program. The committee is seeking donations of items or funds for the purchase of bid items.

In the wake of the deadly heat wave that recently swept across Europe and destroyed more than 40 buildings, we noted that buildings are partly to blame for climate change. The built environment accounts for nearly 50 percent of all carbon emissions and faces an uphill battle towards decarbonization, especially as mass urbanization will require even more buildings to rise in densely packed cities. A major piece of the puzzle involves building materials—steel and concrete are both construction staples, but account for more than 13 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions thanks to high amounts of embedded carbon.
