All God's Children's Camp for Kids With Incarcerated Parents

ALL OF GOD'S CHILDREN ARE WELCOME!

Through an Ecumenical Partnership with VA United Methodist Conference, your diocesan summer camp, Chanco on the James, was proud to once again host the All God’s Children Camp for Kids With Incarcerated Parents. AGC Camp is truly an incredible opportunity to support these special campers, and is just one way in which Chanco serves as an outreach ministry of our diocese.

We believe that each and every one of God’s children deserve the best opportunities available to them. You can help support our mission by submitting scholarship donations online here. AGC Camp also recruits mentors each year to serve as counselors in the campsites with these special campers. Anyone interested in serving as a mentor may contact Gareth Kalfas at director@chanco.org

Change for Chanco

2024's Change for Chanco Project

With your help, we're excited to bring improvements to our river programming with a new inflatable water obstacle course and floating dock.

What is Change for Chanco?

For more than a decade, campers have been saving their change toward an exciting addition to Chanco’s camp programs. Thanks to Change for Chanco youth fundraising many Camp Chanco programs ideas have become part of a summer of fun full of outdoor experiences. New archery equipment, the rock-climbing wall, our Superman Swing high-ropes element, paddle boards, and an arts and craft pavilion are some of the most recent exciting additions made possible by our campers.

Our anonymous donor has once again agreed to match all donations, so your gift will have double the impact. And, to make this even more exciting, each campsite will compete to see who can raise the most, with the winning campsite each session earning a special ice cream party.

No one is too young to make a difference at Chanco! Join in the fun and help us take our camp programs to new heights by making a "Change for Chanco" today.

Thank you for your continued support. See you soon!

Meet the Author Night - Coming this Fall!

CHANCO is reading: Medusa: The Myth of Monsters by Katherine Marsh

WHEN: Sunday, September 15th at 4pm

When your campers aren’t flying through the woods on our ziplines and paddleboarding on the James River, we hope that they will spend some time this summer reading. This activity is important for young minds, and is even a requirement of many Virginia schools. This fall, accomplished Episcopal author, Katherine Marsh, is partnering with Chanco to encourage youth to read by offering a special meet the author night. Ms. Marsh is the author of many award-winning books for young readers including the 2023 National Book Award Finalist, The Lost Year, and Nowhere Boy.

At our special meet the author night, Ms. Marsh will be discussing her latest book, MEDUSA: THE MYTH OF MONSTERS. The program will begin with a short presentation, followed by an opportunity for participants to ask the author their own questions.

MEDUSA is the first in a Greek Myths series for readers 8-12. Imagine Percy Jackson, Wednesday Addams, and Madeline Miller...at Hogwarts. The New York Times featured it earlier this year in its Book Review. It’s a conversation starter for elementary and middle school students about using your voice to stand up for yourself and help others. The book also explores a key theme of all of Ms. Marsh's books: who gets to tell the story. Best of all, the magic school world and adventure is fun, entertaining and fast-paced. You can learn more about Ms. Marsh and find her book at https://katherinemarsh.com/.

We hope that many of you will join us for what promises to be an interesting evening!
