Oh Sh*t! Welcome to my happy place – Anatomy of an accident

Takeaways and lessons learned from a real rigging incident.

In this session, safety experts Dominic Housiaux and Don Parman examine a genuine rigging incident that took place in Europe in May 2025. Both Don and Dominic were present and responded to the incident.

Using their incident logs, which detail the events moment by moment, they step through the incident, contrasting the what, why and how with their own internal monologue whilst trying to calmly manage the situation.

This session looks into the reality of the experience, regardless of your level of experience or preparation, and assesses what we can learn about human decision-making in stressful situations.

Presenters:

  • Dominic Housiaux, Principal of Lankey & Limey Ltd. & Risky Business Resources
  • Don Parman, Safety Guru / Chief Consultant, Backstage-PASS

Behind the Scenes Mental Health Initiative

New tools for career exploration or transition

Behind the Scenes announced a new program to assist entertainment industry workers in exploring career expansion or transitions to new careers when work is not plentiful enough or its simply time to make a change.

The newly launched web pages at btshelp.org/career take users on a journey of exploration to discover possibilities they may not have previously considered. They are guided through a series of questions to help them articulate their reasons for making a change, what’s most important to them, what they are looking for, what they don’t like or limitations they may have, as well as identifying their soft skills.

Behind the Scenes Holiday Cards

Now on sale at the BTS Boutique

It’s important to let family, friends and colleagues know you are thinking of them and these unique holiday cards say it perfectly. They are also a personal and inexpensive way for a company to keep in touch with its customers and let them know “You are important to us.”

Sending a BTS holiday card helps spread the word about the charity and lets your recipients know you are supporting industry colleagues who are ill or injured as well as the BTS Mental Health Initiative.

Cards are available in a variety of options: card packs of 10 with a standard greeting, personalized cards with a company logo and custom message, and electronic cards in multiple file formats and an array of price points starting at just $20.

Interesting findings from the 2023 survey analysis…

  • 59% of people working in culture have 2 or more occupations.
  • There is a $26k+ revenue gap between those that have 1 cultural occupation and those that have 4 cultural occupations.
  • Between 0-2 years experience and 20+ years of experience, there is a $41k+ increase in revenues.
  • 45% of artists teach and/or work in arts administration alongside their artistic practice.

They are looking for 500 participants this year to expand their sample. If you've already completed your tax returns this should be fairly quick. Can they count on your participation?
