🍂 Fall Update
As October comes to a close and the last leaves fall from the trees, many of us are now preparing for the winter and the holiday season. This is always a busy time of year, with events and festivals happening nationwide, and I know many of you are hard at work ensuring your events/shows run smoothly and safely for all involved.
Health and safety has been top of my mind lately, particularly as CITT/ICTS was proud to be a Bronze-Level Sponsor of the Event Safety Alliance Canada Conference, held earlier this month in Toronto, ON. It was my first time attending, and I was reminded once again that the work our members and colleagues do is not only highly skilled and creative, but it is also demanding and at many times it can be hazardous. It requires focus, communication, and trust in the people working alongside us.
No one should ever leave work or an event injured. When health and safety is prioritized from the very beginning of the planning process, it greatly reduces the risk of incidents and injuries. While we can’t predict every situation, maintaining a strong commitment to safety from the outset goes a long way toward ensuring that everyone goes home safely.
The conference also included several backstage tours and I was able to take part in the tour of the CBC. As a long time fan of the CBC, it was a joy to walk through the newsroom and see their studios, including where they shoot The National, and to step onto the Glenn Gould Studio stage.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that CITT/ICTS will once again be hosting a Canadian-Inspired Reception during LDI at Gatsby’s Resort on December 8, 2025, from 5:30–7:30 p.m local time. A big thank-you to our Sponsors and Partners for making this reception possible this year: ACT Entertainment, Christie Lites Sales, DataVisual Marketing, Erikson Pro, SFM, and USITT. More event details including how to RSVP will be announced soon, so keep an eye on our socials and e-blasts. We can’t wait to see our colleagues from Canada (and the US) in Vegas.
Finally, preparations are well underway for EXPO-SCÈNE 2026 and Rendez-vous 2026. Stay tuned for more information on both in the weeks ahead and in the newsletter below. We hope to see many of you at one or both of these events in 2026.
To those celebrating, I wish you a safe and fun Halloween and Go Jays Go!
Warmly,
Jacquie

⇢ Backstage PASS Safety Cabaret
New training program
January 10, 2026 at the Ladysmith Little Theatre, BC
(and soon in a town near you?)
Safety Cabaret is a new training program built around safety and focussed on workers that will combine safety training with real-time activities. Truck loading, lighting and audio install, stage carpentry and stage management will all be woven together in a fun environment supported by industry professionals.
This is the first event under Backstage PASS (Don Parman)'s ALL ACCESS banner. This initial training course will serve to lay the structural foundations for this new series of modular training courses.
The goal is to create an accessible, cost-effective event that rural communities can host in their own spaces. For far too long training for theatre arts has been siloed in major city centers, leaving our smaller arts communities out of the loop. This event is scalable and flexible, allowing professionals from any discipline to be added and topics to be tailored to a community's needs. The grand plan is for this model to be taken out to communities across the country.
