Babcock Ranch Provides Emergency Shelters to Surrounding Communities in the Event of Hurricanes

Babcock Ranch’s commitment to resiliency extends beyond its inland location, high elevation, storm-hardened infrastructure, and ability for our residents to shelter-in-place. It also makes it uniquely positioned as a refuge for our surrounding communities in the event of hurricanes. Both the Field House and Babcock Neighborhood School (BNS) facilities serve as designated shelters for this purpose, hosting thousands of displaced surrounding community members from hurricanes. Both the Field House and BNS facilities, once they are needed by Charlotte County’s Department of Emergency Management as shelters, are activated as such and handed over to the County until the shelter is no longer needed.
