The Maple Knoll Village Retirement Community is a partner with the Emeriti Association in developing our Age-Friendly University initiative and has collaborated with the University for over 30 years, working together in nursing, medical, and pharmacy education and practice.
The formal affiliation encompasses research projects that benefit the retirement community and experiential education opportunities for students in engineering, nursing and medicine.
In addition to intergenerational relationships, opportunities to age in place and telehealth services, students pursue innovative research that directly affects older adults and healthcare as a whole. To date, over 3500 students and 750 residents have been positively impacted by the partnership.

Gen-1 Early Arrival Program
Workshop
2 - 2:45 pm
Tuesday, August 15, 2023
Gen-1’s new cohort of first-year students (about 30 students) moves into the residence hall a week before classes start (this year that is August 13) to participate in the Early Arrival Program.
The Emeriti Association has been asked to facilitate a 45-minute workshop that introduces academic expectations and key techniques for interacting with college faculty (composing an email, preparing to attend office hours, requesting a letter of recommendation, inquiring about research opportunities, discussing a grade, etc.) and gives students a chance to work in groups and/or role play around these tasks.
We could use a few more emeriti to join in planning and implementing this workshop.
Can you help with this program?
Please contact Joanna Mitro (mitroj@ucmail.uc.edu) with questions or to sign on.
NOTE: This is the group we do the cooking programs with.

The UC Emeriti Association, with its executive committee and board of directors, is the governance body of the community of emeriti faculty.
The UC Emeriti Center, under the direction of an Executive Director appointed by the Provost, creates programming and organizes events via our standing committees. Emeriti volunteers are the foundation of this mission.
Opportunities to socialize with colleagues, feed your intellect at our Luncheon Speaker Series, participate in activities to promote health and wellness, contribute your experience to mentoring of students and faculty, enjoy cultural and sporting events, serve the community … there's something for everyone!
One of our most ambitious undertakings, the Spring Festival of the Visual & Musical Arts, was co-sponsored by the Arts & Culture and Social Activities committees. Emeriti, students, alumni, and the community celebrated the generations-spanning nature of creativity with musical performances and artistic exhibits displayed along DAAP's Grand Staircase.
| |
Our committees are the engines of our organization, creating the many avenues for engagement that we offer to our members. We encourage your interest in partaking of these activities and invite you to channel some of your creative energy into joining one of the committees — it’s a great way to expand your social connections as well as gaining the satisfaction of making an impact.
