On the 11th Day Before Christmas PAAT Said...

Lobby registrations are effective for a calendar year so all 2024 registrations expire December 31, 2024. Lobby registration for 2025 launched on December 1 and the conservative advice is to register anyone who will be communicating with legislators or staff during the legislative session.

A few things to note:

  1. If you are an annual filer, you file a report covering the period January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024, which covers the entire year regardless of the date you registered.
  2. If you are a monthly filer, then your report will cover the month of December.

  • Now is an excellent time to check with your clients and update their registration information in case anything has changed. The information on Schedule A, Page 2 (such as the names of the persons who determine lobby policy) or on Schedule A, Page 3 (such as officers and board members) is not required to be updated throughout the year, BUT it must be accurate at the time you register. So check with your client and see if everything is still correct.

  • As a reminder, once you trigger registration by crossing either the compensation or the expenditure threshold, you have 5 days to register. If you have already registered, you then must add new clients or new subject matters within 5 days of communicating during a regular legislative session (legislation passed in 2011). If not in session then you must add by the next reporting deadline.

  • We will discuss changes to the registration and other thresholds in a later tip.
