Friends,
Through the grace of God, it has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve my community as a Virginia State Senator. I could not have done any of this without my best friend and wife Tracy McGuire. Archer McGiffin, my legislative aide, has done an incredible job helping me with constituent services and legislation in the House and the Senate. Thank you for your trust in me to represent and fight for your values in the General Assembly. It has been an honor working together with many new friends and talented professionals in the House of Delegates and State Senate to solve problems for we the people. What they taught me about working with others to help constituents will transfer to the House of Representatives.
My team and I have had much success working as a team with constituents, fellow legislators, Governor Glenn Youngkin, and others to solve 5 year, 20 year, 30 year problems and more for fellow Virginians. It was a huge honor when Governor Glenn Youngkin named me Landing Team Chairman for there Secretary of Defense and Veteran Affairs.
My favorite accomplishment in the General Assembly was helping a Vietnam Purple Heart Veteran who had 26 US Marines die in his hands in Vietnam get his American Flag/ Flag pole returned after a 20 year battle that ended unsuccessfully at the US Supreme Court click here. A bill that has saved many lives, is my bill that gave school nurses training and put narcan and naloxone in every elementary school, middle school, and High School in Virginia click here.
We received a policy maker of the year award, a legislator of the year award, we staunchly protected our 2nd Amendment rights, we passed a pro-life bill this year, and this year again we received the highest award for conservatism in Virginia, the Champion of Limited Government Award.
Each year my team and I were able to pass bills where every democrat and every republican voted yes. It really is amazing what we can achieve when we put our differences aside, treat others with respect, and work as a team. In doing so, we can sometimes turn a no into a yes and the impossible to possible.
My team and I have been working with leadership and this morning I submitted my letter of resignation from the Virginia State Senate to Senator Louise Lucas, effective just before I get sworn into Congress the morning of January 3rd.
My party, the Republican Party, has already scheduled a nomination process to identify my replacement, scheduled for this Friday 13, December. Many know, I have a reputation, with the help my consultant Sean Brown, of helping fellow Republicans campaign and win all over Virginia. It is my hope voters this Friday will choose a strong candidate who loves We The People, has a reputation of working with others as a team with respect, and someone who has never wavered on our core Republican values. As you know, Governor Glenn Youngkin often says and exemplifies we can disagree without bring disagreeable.
Many know we decided to run for Congress after receiving countless complaints around the 5th Congressional District about our current congressman for his disrespect towards fellow constituents. We have a country to save. We do not have time for that nonsense. It took awhile, I answered the call, and we had a spirited race. We The People of the 5th District have spoken!
Now I look forward to my next chapter in representing you and my larger community in Congress VA 05, a district that includes almost all of State Senate District 10. On January 3rd, I will become the first Congressman in history to live in Goochland County.

On November 5th, through the grace of God, Trump won, we won the US Senate and the House, and John McGuire received the most votes ever in Virginia's 5th district! Thank you for your prayers and your vote. We have much work to do. I am looking forward to serving you in VA 05 as a member in the 119th Congress!
