Two Events. One Exhibit. Don't Miss the Final Weeks of Embracing Possibility.

Waddie Welcome and the Beloved Community quilt on display at the Embracing Possibility exhibit.

Time is running out to experience "Embracing Possibility: Georgia's Disability Justice Journey" at the Tubman African American Museum in Macon, Georgia. The exhibit officially closes on June 16, 2026, and we're concluding the exhibit year with two events you won't want to miss.



DISABILITY JUSTICE FILM SCREENING

Sunday, May 31, 2026 | 2:00–4:00 PM (Doors open at 1:30 PM)

Free and open to the public


Imagine Possibility presents three short films exploring disability, art, and advocacy:

• "Voice Power" — A small town's disability community works to transform local transportation for everyone.

• "Doodling for Democracy" — Albany-based artist and self-advocate Derek Heard's journey from outcast to artist to voting rights champion.

• "The Art of Being L.C." — The story of Lois Curtis, gifted artist and central figure in the landmark Supreme Court case Olmstead v. L.C.


Following the screening, meet filmmakers Robin Rayne and Carl King, along with self-advocate Derek Heard, for conversation about their work.

READING OF WADDIE WELCOME AND THE BELOVED COMMUNITY

Sunday, June 14, 2026 | 2:00–4:00 PM

Tubman African American Museum | Macon, GA

Free and open to the public.


Join your friends and neighbors to read a story of Georgians bringing the idea of the Beloved Community to life. This story has been told in universities and coffee shops, as a bedtime story, and adapted and performed on stage. Now it comes to the Tubman Museum. Come for good old-fashioned storytelling. Come to be entertained and encouraged.


There is free accessible parking behind the Tubman Museum for the Waddie Welcome event.
