Creativity Finds Expression

In A New Intrepid

Little did Walter Cornwall know that building a boat in an eighth-grade workshop in Livonia, Michigan would one day lead to him personalizing his own 427 Nomad SE from Intrepid.

“Ever since I was a little five-year-old kid, I’ve had a thing for boats,” said Walter. “Even though I would get terribly nauseous early on, I would just keep on fishing because I loved being on the water so much.”

He has had boats throughout his life, including a 25-year-old custom boat that he currently owns and a 345 Nomad from Intrepid. Walter said, “We purchased the first 345 Nomad built after it debuted at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show.”

Although his 345 Nomad was already built before he purchased it, Intrepid did customize it to suit his needs. “I’m only 5’7’’ so they built a platform to improve my line of sight over the helm,” Walter continued. “I teased Ken Clinton (who is 6’4”) that short people buy boats too.”

427 NOMAD SE

Walter and his family’s new Intrepid is the 427 Nomad SE, a roomier, more powerful center console. “We love the side entry layout and the two rows of seating,” he said. “The larger boat suits us well. We recently had 12 people on board … with the sunshade and the breeze blowing, everyone was comfortable and had a great time.”

Walter and his wife Diane also appreciate the stability of the larger boat. “You just don’t get pounded by the wakes of other boats in the 427 Nomad SE,” he said.

In addition to family gatherings on their boat, the Cornwalls enjoy regular social activities with other Intrepid owners. Walter explained, “In addition to the Owners Rendezvous, we have an Intrepid club that is always doing things together.”

To facilitate a memorable waterfront dining experience with friends, the group has a dockmaster save a spot where they put four boats together. A restaurant serves the Intrepid owners on their boats. “Everybody’s looking good, we have the water lights on. It’s a great time,” said Walter.

Personalizing his new 427 Nomad SE allowed Walter to combine his lifelong love of boating with his passion for creativity and design. He said, “I had a blast with the whole process, selecting the features, finishes, fabrics and colors. I was like a kid in a candy store.”

His choice of color was inspired by the world of fine automobiles. “A lot of people like a shade of blue that is common to Bentleys,” said Walter. “But I happened to be in a dealership and discovered a Lazuli Blue used by Rolls Royce. It was perfect for my boat.”

In addition to the innovation, craftsmanship and personalization of Intrepid, Walter has appreciated the company’s high level of service and customer care. “I can honestly say the customer service is amazing. Everybody treats you like family,” he said. “In fact, I was touring the production facility in Largo one day and happened to be there at the same time as a hall-of-fame professional baseball player. Intrepid treated me like as much of a VIP as the celebrity.”

Intrepid goes well above and beyond to ensure the absolute comfort, safety, and convenience of our owners like Walter Cornwall.
