Council Updates

City Manager Submits Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget to Council


Addison City Manager David Gaines shared his proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024 with the City Council on July 31, as is required by Addison’s Charter. The City Council held Budget Work Sessions on August 3 and 4 to discuss the proposed budget. Video from these sessions will be available on the Town's website next week.


There will be opportunities for the community to share feedback on the budget during Public Hearings on September 5 and again on September 12. You can find other important budget dates here. The new budget year will begin on October 1.

Upcoming Public Hearings


The following Public Hearings will take place at the August 8 City Council Meeting, which will be held at the Addison Conference Centre. Agendas are posted on the Town's website three days before the meeting.


Case 1882-SUP/16601 Addison Road, Suite 106 (Soulful Street Bites). Hold a public hearing, present, discuss, and consider action on a request for a Special Use Permit (SUP) for property located at 16601 Addison Road, Suite 106, that is currently zoned Planned Development (PD), through Ordinance No. O83-043, to allow a restaurant with the sale of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption.


Case 1887-SUP/4851 Keller Springs Road, Suite 203 (Vital Skills Training Center). Hold a public hearing, present, discuss, and consider action on a request for a Special Use Permit (SUP) for property located at 4851 Keller Springs Road, Suite 203, that is currently zoned Planned Development (PD), through Ordinance No. O85-006, to allow an educational institution.

Construction Corner

Quorum Drive Closed at Rail Crossing August 18 - 21

Archer Western Herzog, DART's contractor for the Silver Line, is planning to close all lanes of Quorum Drive between Arapaho Road and Festival Way from Friday, August 18, at 9am until Monday, August 21, at 3:30pm. The closure is needed to demolish the temporary railroad crossing and install ballast, track ties, and rail. Crews will reopen the lanes as soon as the work is completed. Detour signs will be posted but drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes while this work is taking place.

Addison-Airport Based Thrust Aviation Top Rated Flight School

Last week, Mayor Arfsten and Deputy Airport Director Darci Neuzil met with Thrust Flight, an Addison Airport flight school since 2010. Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Stuart Stevenson and CEO Patrick Arnzen shared that Thrust Flight attracts students from all 50 states and has fast paths to airline pilot careers. The school's popular Zero Time to Airline program is designed to meet the demand for more airline pilots. 


In a 2022 nationwide ranking of flight schools, Flying magazine ranked Thrust Flight number two in their guide. To make the list, the publication takes into account career partnerships, program value, facilities, fleet, and student life.

VIPs Visit Addison Airport

Addison Airport hosted some VIPs this week when the Addison Athletic Club summer campers made a stop during lunchtime. The kids cheered when airplanes landed, enjoyed their sack lunches, and learned about Addison Airport.  

Job Fair on August 7

The Town of Addison, in partnership with Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne, will co-host the North Texas Job Fair on August 7 at the Irving Convention Center. The goal of this event is to connect job seekers with businesses in need of skilled employees. Looking for a new job? Register here.

Modified Outdoor Pool Hours Begin August 14

The majority of the lifeguards at the Addison Athletic Club are college and high school students who are beginning to return to college and/or have school-related commitments such as sports, band, etc. As a result, the Club is modifying the hours for the outdoor pool beginning Monday, August 14.


Please join us thanking all our lifeguards and wishing them well as they return back to Texas A&M, UNT, UTD, Boston College, Creighton, Clemson, and OSU.

Community Meeting to Discuss Proposed Development Scheduled for August 9

Trammell Crow Company has presented a mixed-use development proposal at the southeast corner of Belt Line Road and Surveyor Road. As part of that proposal, they are hosting community meetings to discuss project details. The first meeting took place at the Addison Conference Centre on Wednesday, July 26. The next community meeting is open to any resident who wishes to attend. Please reach out to Trammell Crow Company if you would like additional information prior to the meeting.

Metrocrest Services Needs Your Help to Stock Its Pantry

Metrocrest Services recently moved into its new location at the corner of Josey Lane and Belt Line Road, and its new pantry has been exceptionally busy. Last week there were 1,275 pantry visits equating to 81,000 pounds of food. This week looks to be just as busy. While they are adding retail partner pickups to keep the shelves full, they have reached out to the communities they support to ask for assistance.


Addison will be collecting items for the Metrocrest Services Pantry at Town Hall and the Athletic Club from July 31 - August 14. The urgent pantry needs include:


  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Adult incontinence supplies (Depends)
  • Diapers
  • Canned Soup
  • Baking Items
  • Peanut Butter

Les Lacs Pond Improvement Project Informational Meeting Planned for August 23

The Parks & Recreation and Public Works & Engineering Departments are hosting a public information meeting on August 23 from 6:30 - 7:30pm at the Athletic Club to provide an update on the Les Lacs Pond Improvement Project. At the meeting, staff will present the final plans and share other valuable information about logistics, scheduling, and options for base bid alternatives.
