Around Town

A Holly Jolly Day in Addison Circle Park!

Addison Circle Park was filled with holiday magic on Sunday, December 1, as residents gathered for this year’s Holiday in the Park. Families enjoyed festive activities, including photos with Santa, a petting zoo, and giant holiday inflatables. Kids got creative by making magic reindeer food, writing letters to Santa, and posing for pictures with strolling holiday characters.

Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun to kick off the holidays in Addison!

National Life Group's Legacy of Excellence in Addison

National Life Group (NLG) sets the gold standard as one of the country’s premier life insurance and annuity companies. This 176-year-old organization continues to operate with the same pillars and standards that laid the foundation for its success. With messages like “Bringing Peace of Mind to Everyone We Touch,” “Do Good, Be Good, Make Good,” and “Keep Our Promises,” NLG exemplifies a commitment to excellence and community.

NLG manages over $58 billion in assets and has two major locations: Montpelier, Vermont, and Addison, Texas. Ranking #7 among the top insurance providers and as the #1 annuity provider for teachers, they are a leader in their field.

Mayor Bruce Arfsten, Mayor Pro Tempore Darren Gardner, Deputy City Manager Ashley Shroyer, Economic Development Director Wayne Emerson, and Economic Development Manager David Chavez recently toured NLG's impressive Addison facility. The tour highlighted the company’s dedication to innovation, philanthropy, and service. Addison is proud to host this exceptional company, which truly embodies its motto, “Serviam!”

Further emphasizing their commitment to service, a group of volunteers from NLG came to the Athletic Club on Wednesday, December 4 to put together s’mores kits and buttons for Friday's Addison Circle Tree Lighting. Thank you for sharing your time with Addison!

Preparing for the Winter

Before Jack Frost visits Addison, please take some time to make sure you are prepared for this upcoming winter season. Our Fire, Public Works & Engineering, and Parks & Recreation Departments have a few housekeeping requests for residents and businesses while the weather is still relatively mild:

Lawn Sprinklers: Please make sure that your freeze sensors on your irrigation sprinklers are functioning or turn your sprinklers off when temperatures are forecasted to slip below freezing. Overspray from sprinkler systems can cause significant traffic issues when the water freezes on roads.

Tree Trimming: The low-hanging branches of the trees on your property impede the Town’s emergency vehicles, especially when ice weighs them down. Fire apparatus require a clearance of 14 feet which is why Addison’s code requires all residential and commercial trees to be trimmed at least 14 feet above the roadways. Please help the Addison Fire Department improve access to your neighborhood by making sure your trees along the street are trimmed.

Protect Your Pipes: Review tips from Public Works to Protect Your Pipes from the Winter Weather to make sure your pipes don’t burst if we reach freezing conditions.

Winterize your Home and Car: Take a look at the CDC’s recommendations for preparing your home and car for winter weather, to make sure you’re home and car are both prepped for the winter. It’s a good idea to make an emergency kit for your car, so you’re prepared for delays or icy conditions.

Keep informed: Check out our webpage for more information about Inclement Weather Resources. During inclement conditions, if you want to check about Town facility closures, please call our information line at (972) 450-7005.

Parks Staff Begins Winterizing Water Fountains Throughout Town

As colder weather sets in, Addison Parks staff will begin winterizing water fountains throughout the Town's park and trail system. The fountains will be turned off for the season and reactivated on March 31, 2025. However, the new freeze-resistant fountains at Spruill Dog Park will remain operational all winter.

Thank you for your understanding as we take these measures to protect our infrastructure during the winter months!
