Work Progressing on White Rock Creek Trail Restoration

Addison Parks and Recreation staff have been working closely with the City of Dallas contractor to ensure that the utility work related to a water line break adjacent to White Rock Creek Trail addresses restoration of the area. The contractor is making good progress. Dallas originally informed the Town they would install a guardrail adjacent to the grade change caused by the installation of gabion baskets to protect the creek bank. The site does not meet the conditions that require a guardrail installation, so staff suggested using plants as a natural barrier which is more appropriate for the character of the trail. The contractor has agreed and the plants are being installed. Parks staff will continue to monitor the project to ensure the restoration efforts meet the Town's expectations.

Beckert Park Lighting Replacement Project Begins June 5

Beginning June 5, the Addison Parks and Recreation staff will be replacing the electrical panel in Beckert Park, as well as the bollards which will be replaced with concrete LED bollards. During demolition and installation, the light poles marked in yellow on the map above and all of the bollards will be without power. Work is anticipated to take two to three days to complete, during which time the area of Beckert Park marked in orange on the map will be without lighting.

All lights located on the outside of the park along the sidewalks and parking on Addison Circle will be operational.  However, the irrigation system will be down. Staff will hand water the annual color beds until the system is operational.

Once the new electrical panel is installed, staff will be installing new bollards located in the shaded area on the map. The bollards are being fabricated and will ship in several months. As soon as they are received, Parks crews will begin removing the old bollards and replacing them with new ones.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve Beckert Park.

Volunteers Needed for Park Land Fee Study Advisory Committee

The Town of Addison is seeking applications from interested individuals to serve as a member of the Town of Addison Advisory Committee to help inform the Park Land Fee Study process. This important process intends to evaluate and recommend park land dedication, in lieu of fees and park development fees.

Selection Criteria

Selected individuals will be residents and/or those who work in Addison, have the availability to participate in meetings approximately twice per month (up to 2-hour meetings), and be park enthusiasts who place a high value on the quality of life in Addison, and the vitality and financial sustainability of the parks and trails system.

Please submit the completed application using the link below no later than Wednesday, June 21 for consideration. The City Council will make the final selection of Advisory Committee members at their July 11 meeting.

Athletic Club Outdoor Pool is Open

The outdoor pool at the Athletic Club officially opened Memorial Day weekend. Throughout the summer, the pool will be open Monday through Saturday from 12pm - 8pm and on Sunday from 1pm - 6pm.

Last year the pool hours were reduced due to lifeguard shortages. As a result of the great recruiting efforts by the Athletic Club and Human Resources staff, all lifeguard positions have been filled, so the pool is able to operate daily.

Now that the pool is open, it's time for Pool Socials! Grab your towel and your friends and head to the pool on June 26, July 31, and August 28 at 5:30pm for hot dogs and a good time. The fee is $2 per person and should be paid in advance at the front desk.

How to Prevent Package and Identity Theft

Come join the Town of Addison Police Department for another edition of Police Talk, a series where some of Addison's finest officers help the community stay safe and alert. On Wednesday, June 14 from 7pm - 8pm at the Addison Athletic Club, Officer Dowers will share ways to prevent package and identity theft. The event is free, but please register at the Athletic Club front desk.

Learn About the Critters That Call Addison Home

You're invited to learn more about the many critters that call Addison home on Thursday, June 15 from 6pm - 7pm at the Addison Athletic Club. Join Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Sam Kieschnick for a night of learning, interacting, and getting a better understanding of our neighborhood critters.

AFD Hosts Carry the Load Team

You may have noticed the large vehicles parked in front of Fire Station One on Saturday, May 27 were not the usual large vehicles that you would expect to see at a fire station. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Addison Fire Department (AFD) hosted two busloads of Carry the Load participants. Carry the Load is a non-profit organization that provides active ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices made daily by our military, veterans, first responders, and their families. The National Relay travels 20,000 miles covering all continental 48 states, ending with the Dallas Memorial March. This is the fifth year that the AFD has assisted by allowing the buses to park at the station on Saturday night and cheering on participants as they set off on their walk on Sunday morning.
