Reaching into Our Past to Try to Shape Our Future
Hello,

Back in February 2014, when I was going through some personal turmoil, I did what I usually do under stress. I picked up my favorite pen.

Writing is how I deal with crises or confusion, and how I try to understand whatever difficulties or world events besiege me. On that day, I found deep within me the voices (and hopefully the strength) of all the women who came before me. They are still there, in my mind and my spirit, in my words and my art, a gift of love and continuity.

The poem The Feminine Line, which I wrote that day, became an important turning point for me. So much so, that the spirit behind it has inspired most of the work I've done since then and continue to do. That includes:

That's because in all my work, I'm driven to reach into our past, through that "filament of continuity" that we all share, as I seek new pathways toward a better future through creativity, critical thinking, and human connection. Please join me in this quest, through my books (buy and spread the word, please!), by contacting Cynthia Dadson to arrange to have me come speak to your organization, company, conference, study group, or book club, and by talking with -- and listening to -- one another. And, yes, please talk to me, too. I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

I'm look forward to hearing from you,
Sally

We're All Daughters of Eve

Please CLICK through to view a fun (and meaningful) video that Tim Burke created for me about the adventure that my work has become. (It was originally designed as a "cover reveal" video," but it's so much more.)
Please Help Spread the Word

I'm back in the saddle again, with in-person and Zoom workshops and programs. And I'd appreciate it if you'd help me get the word out.

Through my Daughters of Eve workshops and programs, I enjoy exploring with diverse audiences our various interpretations of our shared heritage while we work together to better understand who we are, who we may yet become, and how together we might shape a better future.

In my Creativity & Storytelling workshops and presentations, I use stories, writing and art exercises, and lessons on the craft and business of storytelling to encourage and nurture folks' natural creativity.

For more info, please click the above links, and then email Cynthia Dadson to discuss having me design a program for your group or organization
that will fit your needs and goals.

My newest book -- Daughters of Eve -- is a discussion workbook and journaling guide, based on 12 of my essays which explore the nature of living in the 21st century through the filter of the stories of the women of the Hebrew Bible (such as Eve, Sarah, Hagar, Deborah, and so forth). It’s designed to facilitate exchanges not so much about religion or the Bible, but about how our reflections on those ancient female archetypes influence and reveal who we are today.

Daughters of Eve is designed as a discussion workbook and journaling guide, which, if used monthly, will provide learning material for a year.

If you know folks who are involved in educational programming for community centers, schools, synagogues, churches, mosques, conferences, or other organizations, please suggest that they check out all that Daughters of Eve has to offer. Thank you, Sally

An Invitation
I welcome interesting and/or funny guest blogs on my website.
Please read these guidelines before querying.
On My Bookshelf
I have three book recommendations this month.

I've just finished reading Coleman Hill by Kim Coleman Foote which is a masterpiece of a novel. Called a biomythography, it’s fiction based on Kim’s family stories. BTW, a couple of days ago, I interviewed Kim for my What If, Why Not, How? series. The video should be up on YouTube and on my website soon.

The other two books at the top of my ToBeRead pile are After Annie by NY Times bestselling author Anna Quindlen and Small Strangers, Experiences of Immigrant Children in America, 1880-1925 by Melissa R. Klapper.

Click HERE to read my flash review of Coleman Hill, plus the stories about how I acquired the other two books and my initial reactions to them.
If you enjoy reading this newsletter, please consider forwarding it to friends and/or family who might find it interesting.

If you didn't receive this email directly from me, please consider signing up for future editions. (It's easy to unsubscribe.)
Check out my Video Chat with Award-Winning Poet
Yerra Sugarman
I first heard Yerra Sugarman read her poetry at a Yetzirah gathering in Kansas City at the last AWP conference. And I knew I had to interview her for my What If? Why Not? How? series. Please, CLICK through to hear her read and listen to our discussion about about the history, emotions, and craft behind her poignant poetry.
