SATURDAY CONVERSATIONS

FEBRUARY 8, 2025 10:00 am – 12:00 pm EST

Michael Schaefer, Counselor

In Person Only

1550 Old Henderson Road, Room 131 (North Entrance which is in the back)

We are starting 2025 with a renewal of our Saturday get-togethers. We may no longer be at Jung Haus but we are community no matter where we meet. So please join us on February 8 for coffee, tea, cookies, and conversation with Mike Schaefer. For those of you who know Mike, you know that he is a long-standing part of our community and the perfect person to restart these get-togethers. His bio reads: "Longtime JACO member, spouse, father, grandfather. I work in computer modeling in the construction industry and also as a psychotherapist."

As Mike says, “Coffee and conversation is about creating a space for a more ‘subjective’ experience of Jungian ideas. Our intent is to begin with a seed topic to get the conversation going, and then to remain open to the path that develops from there. [As we grow], our energy shifts from accumulating knowledge to expressing the Self. So, let’s engage in Self-expression!” Saturday conversations are always free and open to one and all—members and non-members alike. There is no need to register. We are truly looking forward to seeing you then!!

INTRODUCTION TO OUR BAUZA PROGRAM

WHO IS ASHOK BEDI AND WHY YOU SHOULD COME TO HIS PROGRAM

March 3, 2025, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm EST

James Fidelibus, Ph.D., Jungian Analyst

Zoom Only

Dr. Fidelibus will provide us with an introduction to Dr. Bedi—who he is and what he espouses from a Jungian perspective. The program is free but you must register (see below) in order that we can provide you with the link.

In 2024 the subject of our Bauza program was the Use of Psychedelics in Therapy. Dr. James Fidelibus (who has spent considerable time looking into the use of psychedelics in therapy and is a contributing author of Psychedelics and Individuation: Essays by Jungian Analysts) was one of our speakers, along with Dylan Rivard (a counselor from Colorado who uses certain psychedelics in his practice). After the program, a number of people reached out to us to let us know that they found the issue to be extremely relevant and encouraged us to continue to use our Bauza Program as a platform for addressing current issues such as this.

BAUZA PROGRAM

The Spiritual Paradox of Addiction

March 15, 2025, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm EST [The Ides of March]

Ashok Bedi, M.D., Jungian Analyst

Zoom Only

Please join us on March 15th to hear a lecture by Dr. Ashok Bedi on the “Spiritual Paradox of Addiction.” Dr. Bedi is a Jungian psychologist and board-certified psychiatrist. He is a Clinical Professor in Psychiatry and a training analyst at the Carl G. Jung Institute of Chicago. He is also the liaison for the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) for developing Jungian training programs in India. You can get more information about him by going to our website or by going to www.pathtothesoul.com.

Dr. Bedi will be speaking to the issue of the high degree of spiritual drive he has found in individuals with whom he has worked who have dealt with mental illnesses in general and addiction in particular.  Carl Jung, in his counsel to his patient Roland Herrington, prescribed that he needed a sort of religious or conversion experience to claim his sobriety. In his book, “The Spiritual Paradox of Addiction,” Dr. Bedi posits that instead of using addictive behaviors to attain connection with Spirit or the deeper, higher, and creative consciousness, recovering addicts can learn to engage with Spirit directly, thus making the addictive detours unnecessary. His thoughts and guidance to Spirit are applicable to all of us no matter our mental health, addictions, or day-to-day living.
