Warm Holiday Wishes

As we approach the holiday season and the end of another calendar year, we want to extend our heartfelt wishes to our entire school family—students, families, faculty, and staff. This time of year offers us a moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the many accomplishments and joyful moments we have shared together.

Thank you for your continued partnership, dedication, and support of our school community. The care you show our students and one another is what makes our school such a special place to learn and grow.

May the holidays bring you rest, joy, and meaningful time with loved ones. We wish you a happy, healthy New Year filled with hope, learning, and new opportunities. We look forward to continuing our journey together in the year ahead.

Sincerely,

Collage Day School Staff

LOWER SCHOOL

Calm and Connection to Support Holiday Fun

The holiday season is magical, but it can also be overwhelming for little ones. Children ages 0–5 thrive on routine and predictability, so big changes like travel, late nights, and new faces can lead to stress or meltdowns.

Here are some tips for a smooth holiday season:

  • Keep routines when possible: Regular naps and meals help children feel secure.
  • Manage sensory overload: Bright lights, loud music, and crowds can be overwhelming. Make sure to offer quiet breaks.
  • Set age-appropriate expectations: Young children may not sit through long dinners or stay cheerful for hours. Short, positive experiences are best.
  • Focus on connection, not perfection: Simple traditions like reading a holiday story or baking together can mean more than elaborate plans.

Remember, flexibility and patience go a long way. The holidays should be joyful for everyone, including the youngest family members.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Science, Books, and Art...Oh My!

Join us on Thursday, December 18 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for an exciting evening that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning! Our school will be buzzing with activity as we host Science Night, the Scholastic Book Fair, and a showcase of student artwork, all in one special event for the whole family.

Explore student science fair projects on display, discover new books and favorite stories at the Scholastic Book Fair, and enjoy a gallery of student artwork that showcases the creativity and talent of our learners. This is a wonderful opportunity to support our students, connect as a school community, and celebrate learning across subjects.

Be sure to stop by either one of our vendors, King of Pops and Aloha Sweets, for some yummy sweet treats!

We hope you’ll join us for this fun and engaging night.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Blasting Off with Outdoor Lessons

Middle schoolers are having a blast at Collage, moving lessons outside the classroom, launching 2-liter bottle rockets, and learning about the outdoors with Mr. Bruce. The most recent experiment tested the difference between various sizes of rockets and different amounts of fuel.

Students are thrilled to demonstrate leadership qualities when helping out with morning flag.

WELLNESS CORNER

Mental Health Moment of the Week: Holiday Kindness

The holidays can be a busy time for families. Take a moment to pause and consider an act of kindness you can do individually or together.

In girls’ and boys’ groups this week, we are focusing on gratitude and practicing kindness outside of school during the holiday season. Shifting our focus from busyness to gratitude can help reduce holiday stress.

Family Connection Strengthens Health

Why it matters: Emotional bonding lowers stress hormones, making kids more resilient against illness.

Tips for parents:

  • Family dinners - Regular shared meals improve both connection and nutrition.
  • Game nights - Laughter boosts immune-healthy endorphins.
  • Story sharing - Reading together before bed builds feelings of calm and closeness.
  • One-on-one time - Even 10 minutes of undivided attention fills kids’ emotional cup.

Eat the Rainbow: All Ears for Corn!

Lower school students continue learning through Collage's Eat the Rainbow program. Students are exploring foods by color each month. This month's color is yellow.

Learn more about corn:

  • Nutrient Spotlight: Corn contains fiber, B vitamins, and antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin.

  • Health Benefits: It supports healthy eyes, digestion, and gives lasting energy for busy days.

  • Kid-Friendly Tip: Try corn on the cob, sprinkle kernels into salads, or make a colorful corn & bean salad with a splash of lime.

We encourage families to join in at home. Let's all make healthy eating fun and colorful!
