LOWER SCHOOL

Let's Celebrate Spring

Spring is a season of growth, discovery, and new beginnings — the perfect time to celebrate learning in Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) and Early Childhood Education programs.

During these important early years, children build the foundational skills that prepare them for kindergarten and lifelong success. Through hands-on activities, creative play, early literacy experiences, and social interaction, young learners strengthen their language, thinking, and problem-solving abilities while developing confidence and independence.

High-quality early learning programs help children grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. By working together, families and educators create nurturing environments where curiosity blossoms and children feel safe exploring the world around them.

Our students have been working diligently as they prepare for their upcoming United States Showcase on April 9th. They are putting great effort into learning about different states, national symbols, landmarks, and traditions while creating colorful projects and practicing their presentations. Through teamwork, creativity, and careful preparation, students are building confidence and taking pride in their work. We are excited to see them share their knowledge and celebrate all they have learned during this special event.

As the days grow brighter, we celebrate the incredible progress our young learners make every day — planting the seeds for a strong and successful future.

UPPER SCHOOL

Showing Appreciation for Our Environment

We are excited to begin our next Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit focused on understanding and appreciating our environment. Students will explore how everyday choices can make a positive impact on the world around them, with special attention to recycling, composting, upcycling, and reducing waste.

Ways We Can Help Our Environment

  • Recycle paper, plastic, glass, and metal properly
  • Compost food scraps and yard waste
  • Reuse items instead of throwing them away
  • Turn old materials into new creations (upcycling)
  • Save water and electricity at home
  • Use reusable bags, bottles, and containers
  • Keep our community clean by picking up litter

To help make learning meaningful and connected to real life, we invite families to participate! If you use environmentally friendly practices at home, we would love for you to visit our class and share your experiences. Whether you recycle creatively, compost food scraps, repurpose old items, or have other sustainability habits, your knowledge can inspire our students and enrich their learning.

Please reach out to Nora Chambers (NChambers@collagedayschool.org) to set up a date and time to come in and speak to our students about ways you can have a positive impact on our environment.

Thank you for helping us grow environmentally responsible learners!

🥩 HEALTH TIP: WHY PROTEIN MATTERS FOR METABOLISM & FAT LOSS

Protein is one of the most powerful nutrients when it comes to energy, metabolism, and body composition.

Here’s why it matters:

• Boosts metabolism – Your body burns more calories digesting protein than carbs or fats.

• Supports fat loss – Higher protein intake helps maintain lean muscle while reducing body fat.

• Keeps you fuller longer – Protein helps control appetite and prevents overeating.

• Builds and repairs muscle – Essential for athletes, growing kids, and active adults.

Simple ways to increase protein intake:

✔ Eggs or Greek yogurt for breakfast

✔ Chicken, fish, or lean beef at meals

✔ Protein smoothies after training

✔ Nuts, cottage cheese, or protein bars for snacks

A good general target for active individuals is about 0.7–1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day to support performance, metabolism, and recovery.

Strong bodies are built through smart training and smart nutrition.
