LOWER SCHOOL

New Year, New Healthy Habits

The new year is an opportunity to start fresh and build healthy habits together as a family. One fun way to do this is sitting down together to talk about what to focus on this year, like daily reading, bedtime routines, or eating healthier.

When your child participates in choosing goals, they feel proud and are more excited to follow through and make them part of their daily routine.

Try Reading Every Night

Reading helps your child grow their vocabulary, thinking skills, and imagination. But it does more than that! When you read with your child, it builds a stronger bond and they begin to associate books with comfort, love, and happiness. This bond can help them enjoy reading more and want to read on their own as they get older.

Make Sleep a Priority

Getting enough sleep is very important for children because their bodies and brains are still growing. Newborns require 14-17 hours throughout the day, while school-age children need 9-12 hours each night. A good night’s sleep helps children stay focused, handle their feelings, fight off sickness, and develop properly. Set a regular bedtime based on when they need to wake up. Create a calming bedtime routine like taking a warm bath, reading a story, and turning off screens at least 30 minutes before bed to make falling asleep easier.

Talk About Healthy Eating

Have a conversation with your child about the kinds of food that helps them grow strong and stay healthy. Explain that foods like fruits, vegetables, protein, and dairy help their brains and bodies work better. Make a fun goal to try a new healthy recipe each week and plan meals together. Teaching your child about good food choices now helps them make smart decisions in the future.

Setting goals as a family will teach your child the value of responsibility, effort, and teamwork. Keep the goals simple, fun, and realistic. Most of all, celebrate progress no matter how small!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Map Testing is in Full Swing

Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope all of our families enjoyed a break filled with relaxation, joy, and meaningful time together. As we begin this new year, we are excited to welcome our students back to campus and continue the important work of learning, growing, and thriving together.

The start of a new year brings renewed energy, fresh goals, and endless possibilities. Our faculty and staff are eager to build upon the strong foundation already in place, supporting each student academically, socially, and emotionally. We look forward to engaging learning experiences, special events, and continued partnership.

As we move into the new year , we will begin MAP assessments during the month of January. All students in kindergarten through 5th grade will participate in reading and math MAP assessments starting next week. Your child’s teacher will share specific testing dates via email or Procare this week.

The information gathered from MAP testing is one of many tools we use to guide our instructional decisions. These assessments help us identify student strengths, uncover areas for growth, and adjust instruction intentionally to meet the needs of all learners. This data is not about labels or judgment, it is about insight, reflection, and action.

Once assessments are complete, our team will take time to review results, look for trends, and use the data to inform next steps in the classroom. Our focus remains on meaningful, student-centered decisions, including targeted instruction, thoughtful grouping, and appropriate support or enrichment. Testing reports will be sent home once all students have completed testing; we anticipate sharing results during the first week of February.

Families can support students at home by keeping a consistent schedule, a good night's rest, and a healthy breakfast.

Thank you for your continued trust, support, and collaboration. We are grateful to be part of your child’s educational journey and are excited for all that 2026 has in store for our school community.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Building Skills for Success Through Hands-On Activities and Real-World Learning

After a restful break, we are excited to be back at Collage and ready for a productive new month of learning! Students have returned with fresh energy, and our classrooms are buzzing with curiosity, collaboration, and creativity.

Our project-based learning focus will center on understanding the fundamental concepts related to the development of a market economy. Through hands-on activities, group projects, and real-world connections, students will explore ideas such as supply and demand, goods and services, and the role of producers and consumers. This engaging approach helps students apply what they learn in meaningful ways and encourages problem-solving and collaboration.

In addition to classroom learning, students will have exciting opportunities to learn beyond the classroom walls. Outdoor learning experiences will allow students to connect academic concepts to nature and movement, while our upcoming visit to the Florida Theater will enrich their understanding of the arts and storytelling in a live performance setting.

As we move into the second half of the school year, we will also begin preparing for MAP testing. These assessments help us identify student strengths and areas for growth so we can set focused learning goals and provide targeted support. Our emphasis will remain on building confidence, practicing skills, and reminding students that their best effort is what matters most.

We are looking forward to a month filled with growth, exploration, and meaningful learning experiences. Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to help our students thrive!

WELLNESS CORNER

Mental Health Moment of the Week: Emotional Toolbox

Building an emotional toolbox is a key part of development. This can include learning how to calm our minds and bodies, as well as identifying emotions.

Take sometime this week to reflect as a family on activities that help create calm minds and bodies.

Celebrate the unique ways each family member finds their calm.

Winter Reset - Supporting Immunity After the Holidays

Seasonal focus: Citrus, ginger, garlic

  • Start mornings with warm lemon water to gently wake digestion.
  • Add garlic to soups or roasted veggies for natural immune support.
  • Use fresh ginger in tea or smoothies to warm the body.
  • Focus on consistent sleep after holiday schedule changes.

Eat the Rainbow: Broccoli - Tiny Trees with Big Power!

Lower school students continue learning through Collage's Eat the Rainbow program. Students are exploring foods by color each month. This month's color is Green.

Learn more about Broccoli:

Nutrient Spotlight: Broccoli is packed with vitamin C, vitamin K, fiber, and powerful antioxidants that help keep the body healthy and strong.

Health Benefits: These nutrients support a strong immune system, help build healthy bones, and keep digestion running smoothly. Broccoli also helps protect the body’s cells and gives kids energy to learn, play, and grow.

Kid-Friendly Tip: Call broccoli “tiny trees” and try it roasted with a little olive oil and a light sprinkle of cheese, or serve it with a favorite dip like ranch or hummus to make it fun and tasty to eat!

We encourage families to join in at home. Let's all make healthy eating fun and colorful!
