Sweetwater Country Club was developed in 1980 and first received major notoriety as the new home for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). The 36-hole golf course was designed by golf architect Roger Packard with the first nine holes opening in late 1982. The Club hosted the LPGA Hall of Fame Golf Classic in 1985 and 1986, won by Nancy Lopez and Amy Alcott respectively.
